Well I'm running the 454 and 455 springs for a 3800# B-body with no snubber and XL9000 Rancho shocks. They seem to work good for me with the shocks set on 6 shruggy

Manual Trans and 600hp will want 002/003 ss springs and appropriate hangers. OR Caltracs and monoleafs.

I bolt mine directly to the factory spring hangers and I have no issues at all. I have thought about the 002,003 springs but with my car weight I would think the rear would sag very quickly given the reputation of the current MP SS springs.
The 454,455 springs have a very stiff front segment which is what you want under a stick car with some decent low end grunt twocents

I make the correct hangers for early B-body cars.

002-003 are for 3000# cars which would be underrated for a heavier car like yours. I have a set of 865-866 for E-bodies which are for 3400# cars so those would maybe the least you would want to put on. Gus has the setup like you are looking for. Good Luck!

I have 002/003's on for well over 10 years. Absolutely no issues.
I run 1 3/4" lowering blocks for obvious reasons. Car weight with me in it is over 3900#. Street/strip car with Rancho's on back and OE torsion bars up front with CE 90/10's. NO SNUBBER.

Larry I didn't even want to order the 002,003's because I thought they would go flat like MP springs tend to do but I can sure see they work for you up
I drive my car to the track with all my camping gear and equipment in the trunk for weekend races so I went with the heavy springs.

Gus,
I truly believe that mine have lasted so long without sagging, is because over the winter months when I do preventive maintenance on the car, I have it on jack stands so the suspension hangs.
(no weight on the springs at all). I do this each and every year.
A few years back I was doing the "driving the car to the track routine" I would load up the slicks in the trunk and back seat along with tools and jack. As I got older, I said the heck with this and bought a trailer. Much easier on my old body....

002/003( the same set) have been under my old Blue Duster for almost twenty years now. Weighed 3350 when I had it, 3220 now. No sagging at all. Car has been as quick as 9.60's at 140 with them recently.
My current Duster weighs 3415 with me and a full tank of gas( how I always race it) and actually has more rake than I want. The 002/003's on it for the last 3 years were on another car for years before I bought them.

Rocky I got me one of them altered wheelbase cars,it's one inch shorter laugh2 seriously though I just tried them without the correct hanger and my tires cleared with room to spare.Since I was getting a custom driveshaft for the Richmond I just left them that way.

4gear.
Just wondering if that one inch difference with a 20" would give your car a better launch being a stick, not that it does not already leave good anyway, but just wondering………...
Any inches forward in squeezing the wheelbase along with stiffening of the front segments will be a plus for most cars. I would imagine a stick car wants all you can gift it with.

Lee I thought about that and figured one inch forward couldn't hurt shruggy I'm really not on the "razors edge" of a chassis tune.I'm just happy being an ET chaser that is just out there to whoop on my car all the way out the back door. When I have slicks on it it hits pretty hard but the ET Streets tend to spin at the hit which is probably a good thing because I have heard the weak link on a Richmond is first gear.

Gus i thought about using my OE hangers.I would have had to make a new drive shaft.Often thought about when I move inboard to have the hangers drilled for 22 inch and use new style springs.i can go to Emch Spring here and have just about anything I want made.Rocky

Re: which s/s leaf springs to use on a 64 stick car? - 08/16/16 05:57 AM

I bought the 3400 lb Super Stock springs from Mancini for my 63. They bolted right in place using the stock factory front hanger. I just use a longer rear shock that is a non adjustable shock. Course my car is an auto but it hooks fine like that on 30 x 9 Hoosier radial slicks. Ron

Larry you should do like I do and just drive the slicks on the street and to the track. I love it as all I do is lower the tire pressure when I get to the track. And when many are crawling under their trailers tieing their cars down this old man just puts some air back in my tires and drives home. I have alot of knee and back problems and its tuff for me to try and crawl under a trailer anymore so this works good for me. But I do understand why a person who races alot needs a trailer. Ron

Re: which s/s leaf springs to use on a 64 stick car? - 08/16/16 04:27 PM

'63 B body cars came with a 20" front segment so SS springs bolt right in. But then the '64 and '65 cars used a 21" front segment and then after '66 the B body cars went to a 22" front segment.

Mopar Performance never bothered to build front hangers for the '64 and '65 cars so I started building them back around 2000. I also sell a replacement hanger for the '62 and '63 cars just because the originals are often beat to death after 50 years of use.

MP 002, 003 are the way to go. The only one to use, Per Chuck Lofgren. The only ones that seem to work the best. I use them on my 71 Cuda

the last set of MP springs i bought were for my resto '72 Challenger. when i bolted them on, the right side sat 2" lower than the left. the MP springs that are out now are garbage. I wouldn't trust them. if you want springs, i'd go with Espo's Springs and Things. got 2 sets from them and they were great. just tell them what your doing and what you want, they'll make them up for you.

I see as I thought the 64 was the same as the 63. Thats some real nice hangers you make. The springs I used are the same size as the A-body springs on my sons Dart but not the same spring. Ron
