I had my 904 rebuilt a couple of years ago with the low gear set from a 998 trans....
my original 1st gear had the planetary in aluminium, low gear set is made of steel...

There are no production planetaries made of steel for the 2.45 ratio 904s...only aftermarket.

'76 and later 904's had steel carriers and stock 2.45 / 1.45 ratios.

Actually, it was '74 when they introduced the stamped steel planet carriers to coincide with the introduction of the A999.
So, '74-early '80 would have to steel 2.45 gears.

I was just going on what was sent here to OZ, looks like they continued to use up all the aluminium planetary carriers by sending them offshore. Nothing here pre '76 had the steel ones,[must have been when they finally ran out of them] good to know thanks.
