help a fellow racer - 07/12/16 03:28 AM

A worker and fellow racer was hurt at BSD this weekend. His daughter started a go fund me page for help with medical expenses and below is what she posted:
I'm creating this account for my Dad, Mike Holland. He was in a bad accident on Saturday July 9, 2016 at Beaver Springs Dragway where he was struck by a vehicle on the race track while he was working. He suffers with multiple broken ribs, a broken arm, finger, and several broken bones in his skull/facial area. He also has received a surgery to remove bone fragments that were pinching nerves in his spinal cord that were disabling his arms. He remains in the ICU at Geisinger Medical Center until further notice. Every donation will help him in this tough time as medical bills keep piling up. If you are unable to donate money, prayers are appreciated as well! He has been through so much and his family and friends mean the world to him. He would do anything for anybody so let's give back! Thank you❤️

Additional info from beaver bob:
Mike Holland was injured on Saturday when a car lost control and struck the vertical A-board and flipped Mike into the air. He struck the ground hard and was life flighted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. His condition is stable and improving.
On Sunday we started a racers support fund and collected money to help Mike out. FYI: Mike is pretty much a one man band farmer and needs help in keeping the operation going. We'll be organizing a fund raiser at the track to assist Mike's needs. https://www.gofundme.com/2dpx7kt8
Please keep Mike in your prayers.

If you can please help out. The link is:

This is exactly what the track should be insured for.

Last weekend I was a volunteer at the Freedom Fair in Tacoma. All the volunteers were covered by a blanket insurance policy for the duration of the event.

In the event the track had no insurance to cover employees, volunteers, spectators or anyone else affected by their program they should be sued for damages.

For immediate help, contract DRAW. It is Drag Racing Association of Women and offers help to injured racers.

Polarapete,
I don't know the insurance situation with the incident nor is it any of my business. Just trying to help a guy who is pretty much a one man band farmer according to bob and a fellow racer who could probably use a little help, as even with insurance sometimes insurance payments aren't timely enough to keep the homefires burning.

Contacting DRAW is also a good idea.

I can well understand you wanting to help the man and his family. I am retired now and have to watch every penny, so I cannot send money. When I was working I belonged to DRAW and when Scott Kalitta was killed at Englishtown, I sent DRAW $25.00. I knew the Kalitta family did not need the money, but I was sure that some other racer would in time. A DRAW donation is also tax deductible and a gofundme deal probably does not qualify.

Scary, scary stuff. I saw on FB a couple of the other pictures. I think I read somewhere his broken arm bone came through the skin.

The update from the page, from yesterday:

Update: The Neuro Dr. said that what my dad is experiencing in his arms and hands is called Central Cord Syndrome (CCS) caused by intense trauma and that he may or may not be able to use them again.. He underwent surgery yesterday to relieve pressure on his nerves and is able to slightly move his arms, still nothing in his hands. Please keep praying that my dad will heal to 100% so he can get back to his normal life of farming, drag racing, hunting, and fishing. & again thank you all again for your generosity. This is so overwhelming
