Getting ready

I was working on the brakes tonight and I think the car might be ready in time. It's been almost 2 years since I've put the hammer down on the Savoy.

I'm in Detroit, I got a surprise call saying the door was done and picked it up tonight. I just read the rules it doesn't seem to fit any class well, almost KOS except the interior rule. I guess we can try big dog class

I seriously doubt your car is any more of a race car than the others in the KOS class. Fiberglass front ends, doors, lexan windows, etc.

We got the motor in this week and are heading to kilkare tonight. If all goes well tonight, we will be there!

Not necessarily badder than yours is, just more like a pro mod running the king of the "street" class.
I don't think Clinton's car even has headlights in its carbon fiber front end.

PRO MOD Really first i'm all motor and i rebuilt my car around Josh's rules and the car has lights i ran KOS over 20 years ago when i first built the car and other thing i'm not the fastest car and i'm sure i'll see you in the lanes next week !!!!!!

How late can we get in the gates Thursday night?

I keep the gates manned 24 hours Joe that way the late comers don't have to worry. Doesn't help the old pre registration numbers any, but it's super convenient for the participants.

Well as luck would have it I ended up in the emergency room today with a bad bladder infection. I was really lookng forward to this race

I thought I remembered seeing a pic of your car w/ the new CF front w/ headlight decals on it...if you've changed it, then that's my mistake b/c I didn't know.

josh are there any credentials for the people who pre registered or do we just pull in the racer gate ?

Damn that sucks John........ Maybe come anyway as we might have a Dr or two on site if needed Dr Doug may be there (different kind of Dr but he is a Dr) and maybe a pretend Dr too.

If you get there after the Linders lot loading and unloading then yes just go to the bud gate. The packet will be waiting there under the name Who paid for it. If you make it to Linders Thursday they will seperate pre re from non registered folks and hand out credentials.

Josh what day is the trophy race, is it just one day or both saturday and sunday ?

How fast are the KOS cars running these days? Around our little track you need to be 5.0 @150 to be competitive. I believe the KOS Demon ran about that back in the day, but not sure. It was 1250 HP / 3150#. Ain't that powerful anymore though.

Weather looks like at worst maybe a quick passing shower for an hour the first couple of days. And even that is a maybe.
Big line of storms running from southwest to northeast, that are as far north as Columbus. They will pass way to the south of the track. That might be where the main rain chance was, and that is all going to pass well to the south.
I watch accuweather radar like a hawk. Think it's going to be a great weekend, but humid

How is the qualifying in the KOS class.

Anyone know how the spectator that was hit by debris is doing?
Not positive, but it looked like possibly a balancer or flex plate let go.

This event really needs to be moved back to September. Underwhelming attendance today.

I was wondering that myself. My dad and I were sitting maybe 15 ft away from him when he got hit. Defiantly one of those fluke things that wouldn't happen again in a million runs.

I was only there for 1/2 the day on Saturday but Attendance looked very light.. Im sure they have numbers and will know for sure.

Yeh, definitely not a common occurrence.
We were sitting up higher, a little closer to the line & i could see something also went straight above the dragster.

Move this event back to sept.!!!!!!!

WAY less people in the swap, show and camping.

The weather is no guarantee in Ohio no matter when the event is held!

Too close to the Nats and humid as all get out.

All that said, I'll still attend and we had a good time.

Weather forecast was a huge factor in attendance.
I didn't run, my crap wasn't quite ready yet. I watched a couple rounds last night from the stands. Great show, fastest KOS guys were running 5.0's

Agree with too close to the Mopars Nats, the lack of vendors was evident.

This was never much of a vendor event as I remember like back in 2000 there was maybe a dozen vendors and a handful of swap spots.
I really liked going there in September just because of the cool weather and more laidback atmosphere. You always looked to the cool evenings to bench race around the campfire and talk about how you just laid down your fastest time of the year.
I hope the rumors are true about it being moved back to September next year.

..... can you move it indoors in October? I might risk the one way 2070 mile pull for that! Hopefully some pictures will surface... I REALLY would like to pull over to that side of the world one day for a mopar race.

The event date will remain on this weekend moving forward.

Competing with the Nats, as race centered event at the nicest facility in the country I'm not sure many racers will struggle with that choice.


Car count for those asking was lite. We were down about 23 cars.

The swap, car show and vendor attendance was down from previous years but the forecast had as much to do with that as anything.

The facility schedule at times has to change and we as outside promoters also have to adjust. Although I find that in the long run this change will be for the better.

I drive 2k miles round trip to hang out with old friends and to support Josh race I was a little surprised when the lady wanted to change me 50 dollars to park in the pits to bring some parts in to a racers but other wise besides the rain it was a great show hope to have a car done next yr to tow 2k miles to hang out with all the great people I've meet at that race over the yrs thanks josh for keeping it going

We had a great weekend and I'll take this event over "The Nats" all day long

...and THAT'S why I'd love to make the trek at least once

My first time and it was great i will be there next year for sure.

Even though the forecast wasn't great, I drove down on Sat for a few hours. I saw 5 cars go down the track. I walked the swap meet and the pits, bought a t-shirt and some ice cream and had a good time. I'll be back whatever weekend it is, and with a car one of these times.

I agree too close to the Nats for me. There is a low probability I would ever make the show in July but I always tried my best to make it when it was in September..........

I race at Norwalk and I only spectate at the Nats. So to compare Norwalk racing with the Nats experience and say there is no correlation is naive IMHO.

so you're saying the racing is better at Norwalk? Guess that's what I've always "assumed" from scoping out the events. Kind of like MaTS on the west side..... great racing at Vegas, but you'll get a ton of folks that prefer mopars sitting in a grassy park whatever it's called in California.

It was a fun event but I like the September date better. Ill take the cooler weather for racing and camping out.

I am a former racer, but now just a spectator. I brought a buddy with me on Friday. Zipped through the show cars, spent quite a bit of time in the swap meet, but didn't really find anything I needed. Met a kid from POLAND who was pretty wide-eyed and very friendly. Educated him on why Mopars are the BEST! Took him and my buddy down to watch the racing up close, behind the wall right by the burnout box. They both about had a cow when the Bob George blown '65 lit 'em up!! We watched until Sportsman was called, then walked through the race pits until 1st round of the Gambler's race, got our $1 ice cream, watched the racing action from the stands until it started to rain, and headed home. What an awesome day!!!

Parking = $0
Day Ticket = $20
Mopar Hat = $18 (fellow racers)!
Cheeseburger & Fries = $12.00 (or so)
1 Lb. of ice cream = $1.00 !!!

Day at the BEST Mopar RACE at the best track in the country = PRICELESS!

On the way home my buddy told me that it was the most he had ever talked to complete strangers. He is a pretty reserved guy, but every time we found an interesting car in the pits, the owner/driver was more than willing to answer questions, tell us about his ride, or just shoot the bull. MOPAR PEOPLE ARE THE BEST! (but I already knew this).

My only regret is that I only had room for 1 pound of ice cream for the day...Next year I am skipping lunch!

I was sitting about three rows behind the guy that got hit. Scary deal for sure.

I asked the track workers in the squad on Sunday and they hadn't heard anything.

Brother and I were 15ft away, a row up and left of him. I thought he had spilled his ice cream until his wife started screaming... most bizarre thing I've ever seen. A small piece of something grazed my arm hair when it happened. Thought it was my imagination until I saw the other guy...

First of all it was a hot awesome weekend. I talked to the track officials. They had to take the guy to Cleveland where he had surgery but he is OK and doing better. This was Sunday night around 7:30 in the staging lanes. Also a real million to one chance was that there was a nurse right there close to him to help till the track EMT's got there. Birdtracker

My Son, Sister, Nephew and I all had a great time! This was my Son's first bracket racing event and he went 3 rounds on Saturday and 2 rounds on Sunday. Pretty good showing for a rookie. Thanx for having a great event Josh!

I have no issues with the date. And as far as the Mopar Nats, great car show & swap but lousy for racing.

Hi Steff, I saw you and wanted to come a talk to you but you where busy at the time then things just got away. It was a great wk end lots of old friends was great to go 5 rounds on Saturday. worked my but off on all the team cars.

I went as a spectator and still had a decent time. I have to admit though, with 3 big shows (Carlisle, MM, and the Nats) in a 4 week time frame, I just financially can't swing it. That being said, I end up as just a spectator at two of the shows, and only bring a car to one. Whenever it is, I will probably still go, but I preferred the layed back September atmosphere as opposed to july. Even if one of the big 3 switched to a june date, that would be a blessing.

Same here Gary! Saw you a bunch of times but was always running somewhere. We're up in MI for this week visiting family. When I make my way over to Holiday Pizza for a couple slices, I'll stop by your shop and say Hi.

Great race, great facility, gorgeous cars and good times. We went a few rounds on Saturday night until i choked in the semis otherwise drove like garbage. Mopar season is in full effect. Chrysler classic, Monster mopar, Mopar Nationals and Quaker city Mopars... We are truely blessed. It's a good time for Mopar guys! All great races!!!!

I'm really dissapointed I couldn't make it this year. Too much in my plate with the shop and work obligations, I couldn't swing it. I'm happy the event was move to July as my work has a vacation black out period on the old date. KOS and this event are what I'm building my alcar for and I can't wait to get it done and come racing.

My husband and I had a blast, even though it was too hot. I like the September date better, but we will come to this event no matter what, it's our favorite of the year.

Got down to 10 cars in Sportsman on Sunday. Which made for a late night. There are some touch racers at Monster Mopar, I had to fight hard for each win light. Though we never changed the dial on the car all weekend, it ran incredibility consistent even in the heat and humidity.

Met some new moparts members (I think I scared Bill Hartman?) and lots of old friends.

Met the Flying Dartman (Joe)...that guy is awesome! He let me sit in his car. And his car smelled better than mine did.

Hung out with mr340 and his posse a few times (NO, I didn't blink again!)

Gmoney1320 (Greg)....my favorite Greg. You need kids.

And a special shout out to Lonnie Smith for making fun of my boots.

Big kudos to my awesome husband, who tried to keep me as cool as possible in the heat. He even let me use him as shade. A spray bottle of water in a cooler in the trunk of your racecar?? PRICELESS.

And luckily I remembered to put pants on before the 2:00 AM bathroom visit. It was a close one though.

And to whoever fell off the back of the golf cart during the Saturday night drunken pit vehicle wheelstand competition....I salute you. You took one for the team.

Everyone says it was hot that was the frist time since February that I've seen it down in the 70s I will never complain about it being hot it's better then the weather out going to be having in "about 8 wks sorry to say

I like this event no matter when the date is although being in September is a tradition and was always the championship event. I personally thought the swap meet was bigger being 2 full rows as opposed to 1 full and a few straglars. Its always great to see old friends and meet new ones. There could be about 20 more KOS cars as far as im concerned as they really rip down the track!! And they're MOPAR!!

Had a great time even with the heat & rain. Car ran pretty consistent. Cut some good lights on Saturday, made it down to 16 cars , one more and I'd be in the $$. Sunday, well not so good pulled a red lite on first round, oh well I got home early.

The only thing I wold like to see done at this race would be to raise the entry fee and have a nicer per round payout. 75.00 for a 1500 payout per day is very nice and very fair but possibly throw the added entry fees to the early rounds

yup...not blinking is a good thing. I got the bye run into 3rd round based on reaction time. That was the first bye I've gotten at Norwalk.

You would love Norwalk Ted. I've been going there for 35 plus years and watched it grow into what it is today. I try to race there at least 3 times a year and hopefully more in he years to come. The 1 dollar pound of ice Creme is just icing on the cake
