Mallory 140 fuel pump... better choice for the $$$?

A dim light bulb went on over my head when it occurred to me that my almost-new Mallory 140 pump may have been sitting for years with stale E10 gas in it.

So, I checked the price for a new one (yes, I know they offer some type of rebuild kit, but this could be a case of internal corrosion) and was shocked by how much the price has gone up. The last pump & regulator kit was under $300, and now the pump alone looks like it's over $300.

I never ran a return line and am not set up for one. Any other dead-head style pumps that can support 650+ HP I should check into? FWIW, the rest of the setup is #8 or 1/2" line to the Mallory regulator and two #6 lines feeding the carb.

I ran that one and it worked better dead headed than returned for me.......

Or the 11213, which is the same thing but with 8AN fittings instead of 3/8 pipe.

Magnafuel 275 without the built in filter It will need a #8 bypass line from the pump to the tank to be able to run on the street, #10 feed line from the tank, #8 forward to the regulator I ran that pump on my Duster, ran good, lasted a longtime

I found my 140 locked up after a winter sitting un-drained. I just pulled the bottom plate off and cleaned everything up and it was fine.
I also have a mallory 250 I got off that internet auction site for $50 because it was a bad ad. I figured on getting a rebuild kit but decided to try it without. I took it apart (had obviously been sitting and dirty) and soaked the gaskets/seals in gas overnight, cleaned everything up and put it back together and it's never given me any trouble. Looks great too.

I ran a Holley black setup exactly as you are on a 650 horse motor(9.80's @135, 3350 pounds, 1.34 60 foot) for years.
I caved to peer pressure and installed return, bigger lines, way bigger pump( in short threw a bunch of money at the fuel system) and didn't see squat difference. Not even a hundredth.
If you have good constant voltage to a Holley black, it will handle your 650 horse no sweat.

Pretty pleased with with my Holley HP150 I replaced my POS Edelbrock 160gph pump with. Had a couple of the vanes fail in the Edelbrock pump so I wanted get away from a vane-style pump. The Holley HP is a gerotor-style and moves fuel well for the $$. Not to mention it is much quieter than my old one.

I had a similar situation, but w/ the Aeromotive 11203 pump. Upgraded to the bigger A1000 pump and return system...ran no different. That was running mid 9s at 3800 lbs. The main I reason I switched was to go to a return style system which made a big difference on the street as far as keeping the fuel cooler. Plus I knew I would be adding nitrous later...needed a bigger pump to feed both the motor and the spray.

What I've found so far...
- Aeromotive pump gets good ratings, but seeing complaints it's LOUD
- Holley HP 150 works well and is quieter... but has horrible reliability

Sure would be nice if I can simply clean out my Mallory and save the $$$ and the hassle of fitting a different brand of pump.

I honestly don't see the Aeromotive as being any louder than the other style pumps I've used...like the old Holley pumps. My A1000 pump is no louder really. Now the big A2000 on the Camaro is loud.
The Mallory pumps seem to be good stuff...never run one myself, but have always heard good things about them.

If you isolate the pump and lines most pumps are
pretty quiet... if you can mount it in the tank
the fuel helps to deaden the sound... the pump I
have on my injection is the quietest pump I have
owned and its pretty good size and its mounted on
the back area of the car/truck... I'll have to
take a DB reading on it but its low

When I built my tank I didnt have any plans for
putting the pump in the tank(carb back then) but
I sure wish I would have thought ahead... I could
still do it but the pump I have now is external
but I can set the tank up for a internal pump

I would just take the Mallory apart and clean it. maybe put a kit in it. I carry a kit with me on DW. I have had the kit since 2012 and my pump since 2003

I liked my 140. I'll carry spare brushes if I ever go back to electric.

Brad,. Send it to Mallory for a rebuild swap...last one they charged me about $40 ( I bought it at a swap meet for $5).

I also have used the aero street rod pump...they both make about the same noise.
