Any good holddowns out there? My shafts where oval!

RAS hold downs are very good. Hughes has some that are good. I prefer the heavy duty steel hold downs rather than the aluminum. Width varies by mfg so be prepared to modify parts in order to get the correct alignment.

I used the MP hold downs (aluminum) with good results. They did require light milling on the sides to gain clearance and shimming to line rockers up with the valves. Whatever you choose, you'll likley need several packs of shims.

I agree with Andy. I like the steel hold downs much better. I use the Harland Sharps, dont get any beefier than that. The RAS are essentially the same as well.

I like and use the RAS brand, oval shafst are uaually caused by over torqueing. The factory torque spesc. are 25 ft. lbs. Yoo may be able to make them round again with some side pressure like in a vise or a press, be careful so you don't make them collapse or make them worse I have had to grind on the ends to ge the aftermarket rockers to slide on and off after someone had over tighten them instead of using the factory torque specs.

what kind of shafts were they? Stock or heavy duty new ones.

I bought a set of heavy duty shafts and they also went oval when I got to 15 ftlbs on the bolts.

I ended up getting some really nice hard chromed shafts from RAS and they didnt crush at all. The RAS Shafts had allen screws in the ends in stead of little freeze plug like caps
