I Did the speedo Calibration.... Found My Fuel Issue

I Did the speedo Calibration.... Found My Fuel Issue - 05/24/16 10:57 PM

I did the speedo calibration today and got that done..
then on the way back I stopped and did a full on pass
and after I got that done the fuel system seem to shut
down.. this was well after I made the hard run.. it stayed
fired but I didnt understand the shut down.. also found
a MAJOR oil leak at the pass side valve cover.. the cover
is very close to the intake so I'm gonna double up that
gasket to see if thats the problem..I had issues there before
but I have to figure out the fuel issue... it ran REAL
STRONG on the run
Of course I had to make my pass on the drive way
to the ford proving grounds... LOL
EDIT
I forgot to turn off the OD and I was surprised
that the OD didnt even slip on the full all out
pass... I didnt think it would hold in OD without
reving up(slipping).. but I sure wouldnt want to
do that very often... I wish I would have opened
up the dumps

Thanks Randy... it ran real strong.. I wish I
would have opened the dumps... there were a few
ford guys coming out that gave me the thumbs up
when I pulled into my driveway.. one guy stopped
and said.. thats one bad a$$ little truck.. he
never seen one before

Mike glad to hear it ran well. I'm sure you will have the fuel deal figured out in no time. Jim

Re: I Did the speedo Calibration - 05/25/16 01:00 AM

As a test I'm gonna pull the roll over valve to
see if thats the restriction in the vent... thats
sorta the way it acted.. it was after the full on
boggy which might have had a vac in the tank.. its
worth a check... I have a #an8 vent... if that is
the issue.. I will add a side to side line with a
drop below the tank so it would be above the tank IF
I were upside down... the side to side has to go past
the sides of the tank so they would be higher than the
tank if its on its side

Nice Mr.P. to be back in the saddle . Gotta love those small blocks.... performance-wise do you think the overdrive trans Hurts much in the 1/4. I know that they're heavier and have a lot of rotating Mass... but it seems like on these newer cars the more gears they add the quicker they run

Good to see you have that thing figured out, bet it felt good to get a little pass on it, Congrats

It adds 47# to a 727 I cant say on the mass as of
yet but this is for the street also so I will take
what I get.. power to weight it should run 10.0 or
just under that... all I wanted was low 10s

That is one awesome looking Rampage! And of course, Rampage is my favorite mini truck. I'm glad you had it out on the road.

The W5's have a much nicer top rail to seal up those valve covers..... If you feel like dancing with the devil again!

They are fixed now... but I wanted to get it
sorted out with the W-2s then change back over
unless I buy some new alum heads

#8 supply #8 return... no I didnt open the cap..
that was just a couple hundred feet from my driveway..
I'll fix the valve cover and take it out again with the
roll over valve off and the cap open

Mike that is an AWESOME looking little truck. So if you take it on Power Tour or Drag Week, will you use a trailer? I think you said in one of your earlier post the bed was no longer usable as a truck bed.
Good luck with it and hope for many years of fun.

I'll take a trailer pretty much anywhere thats not
local... the bed is non existent being that the battery
and fuel tank and bars are in there.. the tank is 18 gals..
I have space in the back 2 corners next to the tank for
a tool bag on one side and my small alum floor jack in
the other corner
EDIT
This pic was before I finished the tank.. I had
to add the vent and filler cap and the mounts for
the tank

Re: I Did the speedo Calibration - 05/25/16 08:10 PM

Found my oil leak... I can be such a BONE HEAD
at times... I had to clearance the valve covers
for the springs and push rods... I guess I got
carried away with clearancing... the gasket was
sitting on about .010 at max on the cover flange.. with
any heat and or crank case pressure the oil was gonna
come out.. damn I can be stupid at times.. this covers
were for my W-5s and I didnt think there would be a
issue.. WRONG... I have a few spare covers so I grabbed
another and working with it to fit... then to fix the
horn.. it has a mind of its own and blows when it feels
like(must be grounding in the column with the vibrations)

Re: I Did the speedo Calibration - 05/26/16 09:09 PM

I found another big oil leak today.. the front
rubber seal on the pan blew out at the corner
of the timing cover and the pan.. the little
tittie on the rubber seal tore off when I tried
pulling it in with pliers when I put it together
.. so I pulled the pan and will replace that tomorrow
.. also found my horn issue... its in the horn button
itself..looks like I'll have to order another horn button
assembly... L-body is the same.. but I think I have one
that a buddy has laying around

I got it all back together today so the leaks should be
all fixed..I'll pull the vent line next time out.. I
should say the rollover valve and the vent line.. and
I'll open the dumps... just curious

Re: I Did the speedo Calibration - 05/30/16 10:07 PM

No more leaks.. ran REAL strong... but I forgot to
open the dumps.. again... no fuel issue this time and
I didnt change anything... I pulled to to higher revs
and it likes it... only went to 7500rpm... went nice
and straight also.. looks like the pre load is close

Re: I Did the speedo Calibration - 06/01/16 03:20 AM

I found my fuel issue today by accident ..as a buddy and
I we cruising to a show(just a place to go) my throttle
started hanging up at about 1400 pm.. when I got to the
show I open the hood and pulled the air cleaner... the throttle
linkage had a pit of play.. that was fine.. then I notices the
primaries are open a fair bit..way more than normal.. looking
around I see the throttle pressure cable came loose and the collar
on it was holding the blades open.. I put it back together the
way it should be adjusted and it idled fine.. on the way back
home I got on it HEAVY... ran great... if not better.. all I can
assume is the blades hanging up and the AIS were getting stupit
readings and some how shutting down fuel..or something... I tried
it 4 times on the way home(beating on it).. perfect each time

Have you run any crankcase pressure checks? Running a PCV system or just venting to atmosphere? ME Wagner makes an adjustable PCV valve ( both for idle and cruise )if you decide to go that route. Could be a leak fixer.

Just breathers right now.. no I havent done any vac readings
yet... that leak was my own fault.. when the tittie broke
off and I was tightening the pan.. I seen the front seal
moving forward.. I didnt think it was gonna be a issue...
I was wrong... the hole that the tittie should have been
in was where the oil was coming out of... I will hook up
a compound gauge to see what I have in there.... if I want
to run a PCV I would have to mod the air cleaner.. but I
want a new air cleaner with the 2 inlets with the hoses
EDIT
I'm thinking about making some changes to the engine..
it lopes big time and I'm not thrilled with all the
tappet noise and I have them tighter than spec.. that roller
might go.. also thinking of a change with the heads.. I
might put the W-5s back on... or pick up some new heads..
I just dont know yet
