They need clear sided enclosed trailers so people don't touch them. Chief and Shawn have talked about it on a few of their podcasts, some of their fan interactions makes me feel bad for them.

Totally agree, I hung out with Monte in Orlando one day during a Mickey Thompson test session, dude is cool as heck. He even answered some questions for me and explained some of the tuning he was doing to a car down there.

...and, that ended quickly! Tell us again about how great the Turbo 400 is Monte?

I hate to see that happen to anyone, and I'm aware that 727 explosions are just as, if not more violent. Just a graphic example to all the newbies jumping on the Turbo 400 band wagon. If it's not an aftermarket case Rossler, I wouldn't have one! They are not all created equally...

Once again...not a brand specific rant..it's just that I've seen this happen often enough with the center support of a turbo 400 that they frighten me. Be careful out there guys, if you don't have an sfi case, run a shield. Glad to hear he's ok.

That is just crazy. I guess I see it different. I sit on the diff and have a leg on each side of trans in my ride. Hope no one was hurt. That looks like it was a very scary moment... Car can be rebuilt, body not so easy to repair.

So what's the story here? Did Monte blow the trans, then haul it back? or a test and tune gone bad.

They were testing and it exploded. Took out a lot of stuff

I don't understand why there was no shield over what appears to be a stock case?

Few things.........Yes it was a stock case and they normally run a Kevlar shield, but somebody forgot to put in on. It wasn't on car here and I reminded them to put it on, but it didn't happen. Two, the trans was SUPPOSED to have billet drums, it didn't. They were not stock, but also not billet. That trans had a bunch of runs and has been in the car a year or more..........Lastly and this is the killer. Sitting in his shop floor are TWO brand new 400s from Coan with all billet internals, in Reid cases. They have clean neutrals and the shifter hadn't come in, was the reason one of them wasn't in there.

Side note........say whatever you want Billy, blown up 400 or not. I will take one EVERY day over a 727 in a car with big power. This mishap don't change that one damn bit.

James is lucky. Pieces bent the cage in several places, tore holes in a couple places and shrapnel went through cowl and winshield. A piece did break his nose. Shredded the wiring harness completely in two at three different spots

The car was pretty much repaired when I left Sat morning. They are going to finish up some stuff and I am going back out on Wed to rewire it. The plan is to be ready for race night next Saturday.

We had made several pulls on the chassis dyno on motor, one kit and two kits. The trans blew on first test pass at Thunder Valley Thur night

Yep he needs to buy a lottery ticket, I hate see anyone's stuff break. I'm betting the next transmission will be in a good case or have a shield or blanket.
