What starter with Indy block?

What starter with Indy block? - 02/02/09 01:57 PM

I know this has probably been hashed out before but....what starter are you guys using with the Indy Max block. I'm having problems getting one to fit because of the extra ribs that this block has versus the factory block. I have a RobbMC starter and it won't fit. It has to be a powerful starter too because this is a high compression big inch race only motor. Header clearance is not an issue b/c its on a tube chassis car. What has everyone else had good luck with???

Not sure on the Indy block, but I have the MP mini starter on my KB block w/ no clearance issues. My 572" is only 11:1 but I had it on a 14.5:1 446" and it spun it over no problem also.

Factory Mini starters here 560 inch mill with near 16:1 compression.

I just haven't had very good luck with Mopar minis in the past but I guess thats what I'll go with because nothing else seems to fit the aftermarket blocks. Thanks for the info guys!

I use the Mopar mini starter with 15-1 CR no problems so far.

Big camshafts with a lot of overlap don't usually make very much cranking compression, most stock starters work fine on my high compression motors (14.7 to 1 on the last one)with tight LSA(106)

got a indy max block run a mini starter from a 92 full size truck longer case more power starts my 572 with 16.5to1 just fine no issues its tight but fits with no mods

I use a mini starter, tried to use one of those fancy CSR billet nose super duper ones from them

by far the best starter i have used is a MEZIERE
TS104. ive got 14.8 compression.

even a 440 source starter fits a maxx block. i keep one as a spare for emergencies.
