Made Some Chassis Tie Downs

Made Some Chassis Tie Downs - 02/14/16 04:38 AM

Well due to some miscommunication, did not weld chassis tie downs on the k member of my GTX build before the k frame got powder coated.

So I had to make some. Pretty happy with the results. Each bolt is god for just under 2500 lbs in shear (for a total just under 10,000 lbs) so I should be good. In addition I got the tab in the back to help just in case.

If those are 3/8" grade 8 bolts you wont have
any issue.. even that you are gonna apply some
tensile load to them
EDIT
Unless you have a huge hole in the plate.. take
off the flat washer and use a lock washer.. or
use a longer bolt with both a flat and lock

Exactly on the forces on the bolt - there will be a significant portion of the load that will be in tension (tensile load) which is a higher rating than the shear rating so I ignored it. I will be using grade 8 hardware.

Unfortunately I had to slot the hole by .200" because I located the hole too far forward and did not have enough material left in the k frame to maintain the sheer strength. So I need to use washers. Not exactly sure what I will end up with for actual hardware but it will all be grade 8 hardware.

I bought some that mount to the rear from a local guy. His name is bluescuda on here. Have yet to install though.

On the rear I just drilled a hole through the shock plate. Then inserted a thread together chain link. Then you just hook to the link.
