Race tire ??? - 01/27/09 05:23 PM

1970 all steel Dart 408/727/3800 stall/4.10s.
3500# with driver, pump gas, street/strip, super stock springs.

Car goes 11.56 at 115 in good air.

I had steel rally wheels with 15x7's on the back. I run the M/T 28x9 ET Drag. The combo liked 15.5 psi in the back on a decent track.

I've switched to Centerlines with a 15x8.5 on the back.

My question is what kind of pressure will the combo like now with the wider rim?
I assume I could run a little higher.
What do you think? How much?

Thanks

It really all depends on track prep and how your car is set up. I was always told to run as much air as you can w/o spinning the tires. Go up in 1/2 pound incramints and see where they break loose.

I'll probably start at 16.5

start with the same and adjust from there. I bet it will be in the ball park. you want as much pressure as you can run with out traction loss.

Not to highjack but i really have to ask.

Do you have stock wheel wells on that Dart?
If so how much room do you have for a bigger tire?
Do you think that 28x10x15 will fit?
How about the hight, any more room to go 29"?

Thanks

The car has the stock wheelwell. I am able to fit the 8.5 rim because I had the 3/4" offset hanger kit installed. I also spaced the rear back 3/8 of an inch with aluminum spacers. This is the biggest tire/wheel combo that will fit. I just moved the battery to the back to help consistency. I want to bracket race this thing and not lose all the time.
