Wheelbase question

What effects could result from having a wheelbase that is 1/2 longer on the drivers side than the passenger side? Would the wheelbase being off make it harder to hook consistently?

Long story, but I knew my wheelbase was off. Took a measurement and it is about 1/2 longer on the pass side. If it matters, mono springs with cal tracs. The car drives fine on the road and at speed, but is finicky on hook.

It depends on why the wheelbase is longer? Lots of drag cars have some stagger built into the front ends.

If the rear end was that crooked, which it doesn't sound like it is the car probably wouldn't drive very well.

The rear is that crooked. It is crooked because when I bought the car in 89 it had been wrecked. The drivers side front spring hanger was almost ripped off of the car. We put another hanger in the car, even though it was put back in pretty close to the same spot, it 3/8 to 1/2 inch off.

Have you had it 4 wheel aligned, if the rear IS off
put a 1/2" spacer in front of the driver side hanger
to square it up. With a 1/2" off on the axle it will
try to drive you crooked and your always correcting
or scuffing. When I align mine the rear is a MAX
of 1/16" out

Mr. P,

My plan was to get a piece of 1/2 plate, get a very good measurement, mill the plate to the exact measurement I need, then put in place to correct.

Would being out a 1/2 inch cost any ET?

If it is truely the rearend is crooked then yes it
will make some difference... maybe a hundredth but
how knows. Square it off of something thats ahead
of the crashed part, use the oblong holes in the
frame rails, they were jigging hole
