BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/26/09 10:58 PM

I`m going to be heading back to the local 1/8th mile track for the last time this thursday so in addition to leaving even higher than 3000rpm`s I`gonna play w/the timing, squirters and shock settings. What else would you guys be focusing on in terms of tuning and what are your et predictions? Thankxx..........Da thump.

In all seriousness if Ron Silva or Bryan Sloan are there try to sponge off as much info as you can since they run Irwindale alot and of course have either take a peek at what you are doing. The weather is nice today hope it holds out.

Thankxx guys. I`m no expert and always open to suggestions and also agree that my mph is off but assumed it had more to do w/my 4.11 gears. So, no et predictions?

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/26/09 11:42 PM

I run the 29x13.5 hoosier qtp`s and went my 1.36 at 12lbs. cold and 14lbs. after my burnout. Wedgeomatic.........my car weighs about 3150 w/me but this is an 1/8 th. mile track so no 9-sec pass YET.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/26/09 11:59 PM

Well if you dont spin, a 6.20 @ 110 for the best
after you do your work.... which would be in the 9.75
range with a 136ish in the 1/4(when you get there)
Up your launch revs and see if you spin

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:01 AM

That`s actually my goal...a 6.20 at close to 110 and yes, I`m gonna leave as high on the vert as I can to see what it likes.

What do you guess the temp will be that day?

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:13 AM

It calls for a high in the mid 70`s and a low of mid 40`s and since I`ll be racing in the early evening(after 5:00pm) hopefully it will be cool.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:22 AM

Well good luck and write down your changes.... 1
change at a time except for jets.. try dropping
the jets 2 sizes a time (I think you will be 2 jets
on the fat side now)jet for MPH

find some real slicks and you should be close.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:26 AM

Thankxx I do think it`s still a bit fat and upping the hi-speed bleeds a few #`s(delaying/leaning)did pick it up some+ we were at 12.2-12.4 at wot on the chassis dyno here in the high desert and left it since I race at a much lower elevation.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:40 AM

i agree with getting some real slicks. also, a LOT more gear for the 1/8mi. {the gear change might be out of the question}

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:42 AM

I`m actually 60 footin better than my hoosier slicks(1.41)and was told the qtp`s are the same as a slick exept for the grooves. + remember, STREET CAR..........no slicks allowed.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 12:46 AM

tj, I race it like I drive it on the street so slicks are out of the question at this point(new rims and tires) and it is set up for the 1/4 mile I`m just playing here for now then I`ll get my 9-sec pass at fontucky soon hopefully.

I`m doing nothing more than leaving at 3500 rpm`s on the first pass and going from there.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 04:54 AM

Find out where the best shift RPM are also, if you have enough time Be kind to the local street kids, don't do like Fred and BG would do

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 06:05 AM

I did play w/shift points last time out and ended up shifting between 6500-6700 instead of the previous 6800-7000 and it went quicker/faster but, I also made other changes so, . I was real bad about making too many changes at once but now it`s one at a time and I have a game plan and a 6.20 110 mph goal. I`m pretty sure I`m a bit tamer than those crazy guys but, then again you never know.

In addition to only one change at a time I like to make two or more passes after each change.

Hey Dom you should have towed it out to the Strip last weekend for the PSCA test-n-tune. There were less than a hundred cars in the place and you could have hot lapped till your tires blew. We made many passes with the Mustang.

Re: BACK TO THE 1/8th MILE FOR A NEW BEST............. - 01/27/09 05:27 PM

Weekends are hard for me Bob cos I`m usually playing drums w/one of my bands but that sounds cool except for the fact that I need a liscense since I`m way under the et cut off. This is my last 1/8th mile attempt then it`s back to fontucky for my 9-sec pass then eighter I step up legally or drive it till it dies and enjoy all of my efforts and help from you guys to achieve my goals.
