I don't think this is what you looking for but here's the only picture I have. We used some 1/8 steel plates to mount to the frame and we put a top on it so I can still use the floor space to store stuff.

I have mine mounted in the bottom of a cabinet on
the other side of the wall, you can see the hook
at the wall, the button is hanging there

Re: winches in trailers?pics? - 01/27/09 01:00 AM

only pic I got is too big.

but I made a steel box big enough for my winch and an Optima battery and mounted it flush/ below the floor between 2 X members. I extended the remote control so it plugs in near the wall light switch, and of course the battery is hooked to the charging system of my tow vehicles.

the box is also vented in case of heavy fumes being in the low spot of the trailer, and the likelihood of sparks from the winch motor.

Its far back, so I dont have to step over the cable or wind it up all the time. I had the winch in the front lower cabinets of my old trailer, and that gets old real fast.

Sorry no pic, it was on my last trailer. I had the
winch mounted to the floor (on the side) then had a
5/8" ID tube mounted to a cross bar(under the trailer)
that was flush with the floor. On the cable I had
a pulley with a 5/8"rod welded to the bracket
on the pulley... drop the pulley in the hole and I
was ready

NO picture but thats how mine is, mounted on drivers side wall floor area just ahead of the car. Installed a d-ring at the center floor with a removable block pulley. Pulls the car in straight and you don't have the cable in your way.

Mine is in the cabinet

The original owner of the trailer had some sort of rail and loaded everything to one side. That's why there are 2 openings with rollers. I damaged a cable and the tensioner with the cable winding up on one side of the spool so I relocated the winch to center it.

Gee, if you put some tires on that thing it might roll even easier. lol

Well I could show a picture but would be nothing to see. My S5000 Superwinch is simply bolted up in the front of my trailer under the cabinet. Just the hook sticking out when in. We used a piece of 1/4" steel under the floor as a large "washer" so to speak.

Mine is mounted next to the roadside wall. Battery is in box under the floor next to it. D-ring in the middle of the floor has a removable pulley I got at the local hardware store.

I would have to unload trailer to show you what I have.

My trailer floor is engineered structural alluminum. This is really the only way my deal will work is on steel or alluminum floor.

I use my winch. When I am through I can remove the winch and unplug and put away in the cabinet. It is a 3500 lb winch not a cheapo. When I need it again plug the cord back into the connector and slip the winch back on its mount.

There is no real tripping hazard when it is removed. The only thing sticking up out of the floor is the heads of two large carriage bolts. Everone who has seen this has flipped out.

If I ever get the time I am going to make a bunch and sell them. The plan was to make these and sell them to Exiss the manufacturer of my trailer. They have put their focus back into the horse business. So not much to get into as far as car trailer accessories with them.

Re: winches in trailers?pics? - 01/27/09 11:31 PM

My enclosed trailer is only 22' long and space up front is tight so I didn't want to permanently mount a winch up front.
I had the fab guy here at work weld a standard 2" trailer hitch receiver tube(bought it at Tractor Supply) on to a 8"x8" steel plate. I had the tube built up off the plate about 3". I mounted the plate in the front of my trailer with a similar 8"x8" plate bolted under the center frame channel, under the trailer.
Then I mounted my winch on a receiver plate that slides into the receiver tube. I can remove my winch for storage and slide it in the receiver tube when I need it. Sorry no pictures available of the winch right now, the trailer is buried under snow.

Re: winches in trailers?pics? - 01/27/09 11:57 PM

I needed to be able to drive a golf cart over the winch. I looked into making a box beneath the floor to house the winch. Putting the winch off to the side did not suit me either.

That's why I machined a plate with key holes in it that the winch attaches to. Then there is a plate beneath the floor that is threaded for the carriage bolts that thread in from the top. In then welded the plate to the crossmembers beneath the floor.

I cramed a lot into a 40 ft gooseneck. Car, golf cart and a full living quarters. Not to mention storage to completely rebuild the engine at the track along with a toolbox capable of handling tools to do so. The trailer is so tightly packed I had to come up with a place to house the two spare tires. They are mounted behind the rear axle much like the spare on a newer pickup truck.
