Which belt to choose? - 01/23/09 02:12 PM

Im going to install a rollcage in the duster, new seats and new belts, but what belts to choose? Wraparound belts or bolt-on? Will both work with a rollcage? Anyone of these two to prefeer?

Please guide me!

Thanks!

Go with the wrap around unless you have a tab welded on for a bolt in belt.

You could go ether way as you are just having the cage installed. My view is the rap is more user friendly. Other than that you should look at the cam lock type belt, it'll cost a little more but worth every penny.

I have had both, the wrap around slide around and don't stay in place like the bolt ons do. I like the bolt ons best I drill a hole thru the roll bar cross bar behind the seat and bolt both shoulder harness to that location Make sure your crossbar meets NHRA specs in realation to your shoulders when sitting in the seat first , if that is a concern at your local tracks The harness attaching point is suppose to be no lower than 6 inches below your shoulder, if I remember correctly, check the rule book to make sure what the exact spes. are

Thx everyone, i think ill have a second look at the cam-lock belts after all

Are all the bolt-ons supposed to bolt the shoulder belts to the cross-bar? And wouldnt it count as a 4-point if you only had one attaching point for the shoulder belts on the crossbar? Arent 5-point supposed to have two attach-points for the shoulder belts?

The shoulder belts must be attached to the cross bar no higher than the drivers shoulders or no lower than four inches below the drivers shoulders, not six inches The amount of points of contact are determined by how many places the belts touches your body, not how many points they are attached to on the car, I think anyway NHRA does not allow the Y type belts any more but they do not prohibit using a common attaching point on the shoulder straps according to section 19 of the general rules sub chapter 10:5 on page 281 in the 2009 rule book they do prohibit using bolts that go thru the belt webbing instead of using the proper hardware
