Lokar anchor tight locking dipstick is there room??? - 08/19/15 12:39 AM

Is there room to put one of these on My 68 GTX B Body?? Buddy tried to put one on his 67 plymouth B body and said there is no room and it broke off. It sure seems to be a needlessly long bottom part for no reason and way up and out from tranny no good reason?? any help and thoughts would be appreciated.

I didnt use the stanchion on my 518 BUT they
didnt make a locking one from Locar that would
work right... I cut the locking end off the one
that locks(like that stanchion one) and cut mine
and welded it on... you cant even see it was done..
I'll get a pic tomorrow of it

I had to massage the tunnel of my pickup to get clearance for mine with a small block 727. I would imagine a B body is even tighter than a truck.

I have the shield on there also... its tight but I
made the tunnel to just clear.. the bends were tight
enough that I had to cut 1/2 of the end of the stick
(just below the full mark a 1/4")so the stick could
make the turns.... I'll get a pic tomorrow
EDIT
Mine is a cable going down... I assume is also

Yes cable don't know why that piece has to be 6 inches instead of like 2"

The housing on mine goes right into the trans housing
then up and over the shield and just on the front side
of the mid plate then mounts to the firewall... I dont
use that tall part at the trans
EDIT
I even spun up a adapter to plug in the to the locking
part just so it is easier to fill.. hooks up to the
hose on my funnel

Going to skip it for now and see if I can have that tall part at trans shortened or find a short adapter for the tanny. Thanks thick I'll call Lokar no need at all for that 6 inch high piece a 2" would be much better for a full bodied car??

Go to Mastaperformance.com He may have or be able to make something work.. Mopar guy forever, That is all he does is build dipsticks. I have them on my car.. Not sure if I have a pic of the trans one but if you look close engine one is here. Kevin

I modified the stock tube. Cut the mounting bracket off. Fab a new bracket that has the mounting hole 90 degrees to the original. The new tab will now attach to the boss with the hole on the trans bell housing. It will be much easier to install and remove. You can also rotate it in the trans for the most clearance before you weld the tab. Go to the junkyard and get a GM trans dip stick. Remove the roll pins at the top to remove the locking mechanism. Trim your Mopar dipstick .050" on each side at the top so the GM locking mechanism slides over it. You may have to trim the length slightly so it registers correctly, make a trial fit. Drill 2 holes where the roll pins went through the Mopar stick. Attach the locking mechanism with 6/32 screws and a dab of locktite to the Mopar stick. $5 at the junkyard and 15 minutes work.
