racing up towards Pontiac... I dont know if I'll be ready
or not... still building the front fascia after the engine issue...
I might be done.... the actual dream cruise is Sat Aug 15th.. but
most of the fun starts about a week or so before

Just found this:
http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2015/07/23/silverdome-parking-lot-to-host-festival-with-drag-strip/

Looks interesting. I'm at CTC, might just have to drive the hot rod to work that day.

Otherwise, maybe I'll stop by the DC, and just do some general cruising.

Telegraph is this weekend, good excuse to get the car out.

Mike there is an actual sponsored event going on at the silverdome, starts about 4pm till about 9 or 10pm. The racing will be in the parking lot. We know about the street action later grin

From yesterday's Oakland press:
The event, which will feature a drag strip, a band, food trucks and thrill rides in Dodge vehicles, is scheduled for 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 12, the Wednesday prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise. The event will be televised, with Discovery and Motor Trend television shows Gas Monkey Garage and Roadkill taking part. Richard Rawlings of the show Fast and Loud will participate in drag strip events.

I'm getting closer....I FINALLY found a GOOD front
fascia reinforcement the other day....super nice guy..
he JUST started up a Rampage site last Saturday.... he
has a few Rampages himself and knows where he can get
parts from another 6 Rampages... plus a half a dozen
2 door L-bodies(which the front parts are the same)...
he took a pile of pics and it looks great.... he even said
he would package it up real good and ship it.. for FREE...
he said that if I like it then I can pay... he wanted $25
plus the shipping... I told him if its anything like the
pics
I'll give him $100 if thats ok with him.... he was all happy...
and so am I... cant wait to see it and get it mounted

Re: Woodward - 07/29/15 11:56 PM

Man, that sounds spooky. I am a New York car now and the Man in my town are more or less relaxed. They love cars as well.
I have DOT Hoosier's Cheaters out back and Muff's that end at the rear end.

Loaded question this is.
Can I assume trouble from the Badges?
I'm under my own power, but will behave and respect the Detroit LE since I am part of LE family. But if it's an issue, I will throw it on the bed if the MAN is going to be anal.
Detroit should consider that this event, once a year brings in much needed dollars. I've already spent a wot just on food. I am a foodie though.
I'll behave myself on the Blvd.
Look forward to the Cutter.

I am at a loss on that as well, I suppose to keep the fast cars out or substantially slowed down...

It seems they only really reply to questions on facebook, and when I asked:

"NO – Slicks, Cheater Slicks, Drag Radials, Non–DOT Tires"
So DOT drag radials are out?

That's correct, no drag radials.

My Dad (dvw) just went over to the silverdome. He said he watched Frieburger make two passes in a hellcat charger. He said there are new aluminum grandstands there, at least 40ft of new concrete launch pad, and concrete barriers put up.

Re: Woodward - 08/12/15 02:00 PM

I was out last night up and down Woodward and finally shacking up for a bit at the Shell station between 13 and 14th mile.

I'll be out today at Silverdome and hopefully can run with what I've got out back as far a as tires. Will try and make the Donut Cutter later or in between or all together if I get disqualified at the Dome.
The next time I'll be out will be Saturday at the Chrysler display on 13th Mile and Woodward. I've been invited to come represent.
Was a cool crowd last night till the drizzle came in which I used to get a free car wash and wipe down while yapping.LOL.

From what I heard on Chanel 4 Frieburger said it was open to the public?? I have heard so many different stories and rules about this, 150 cars 5500 people to 7000 people spectating?? I will be standing on the soccer field at the end of the track watching it outside the fence!!!!

maybe they will get a tent over the circus soon enough.

of the other parts on the car... but I'll do that in a week
or so... I dont even think I'll have to wet sand the front

Re: Woodward - 08/13/15 05:58 AM

Had a blast today at the Silverdome.
Almost did not make the rounds at all since I spaced on bringing a helmet out of all things. Got a helmet from a cool gentleman by the name of Gary who got his friend to loan me his Motorcycle helmet.
Track or more like parking spots were slippery and a little bumpy, but doable with some slack on the throttle and less air in the tires. Starter/staging Ladies were cute. More like Baywatch on concrete.
My car went drunk first round, but I got it together for the rest with less air, throttle and finesse.
I was shutting down even before the stripe being that I have four way DRUMS. LOL.
Back to the Wood this Saturday.

Good to meet you FMJ!

My night could have gone better, but all in all it was a good experience. Fuel pump crapped out as I was lining up to make a pass, ran an hour home, cobble together an old Holley Blue with some fittings, ran an hour back got the pump installed in 15 minutes and got the car home.

I didn't expect much organization, but to mandate SA2010 lids, and DOT street tires (explicitly not drag radials) and then let everything fly was a little disappointing.

I'm about 20 min from the dome

Re: Woodward - 08/13/15 03:38 PM

What kind/make of pump?
I plan on having a small wire/plumb in cheap fuel pump that I can wire/plumb in at any time along the line to get me out of holes like that.
Tires!
Yeah, That's why I just went with the wind and came with my DOT Hoosier QTP's and did not care if I didn't get to run.
I figured that Detroit has some really fast cars and if those cars are on civilian tires, they may pose a bigger problem compared to a car with DOT gummies going straight and smart.
Scott, the track manager, his track staff and Chrysler heads of state were fantastically nice. Even the breath check police were cool. Wonder how many people melted the contraption. LOL. What a world we loiter in now.
Had a good time all in all as well and met some good people. Glad to have met you as well.
Made it late to the Cutter though.
Maybe will loiter tonight if not all day Saturday.

I thought about trying to PM ya or something, because I knew you were close, but I remembered I had a pump at home that I thought (hoped) worked, and the GF was coming up anyway, so she stayed and enjoyed the racing while I went on a parts trip, all in all I've had worse nights wrench

I have 2 new Mallory 150s and a used Mallory 150
even the used one works well.... thats part of the
reason that I run a pair of pumps... if 1 craps out
you might not have enough to race but you can get home
EDIT
plus I think I have 2 holley blues

Re: Woodward - 08/13/15 04:14 PM

It had a BG220 on it. I know everyone knocks them, but I have overall had decent luck with then. Sometimes the pump side would weep and need a new o-ring, but this was the motor. The pump has been on there for a while I suppose.

This will serve as the motivation to build a new fuel cell with a modern style in-tank pump (or two, haha).

So did they let guys race with drag radials?

Re: Woodward - 08/13/15 04:39 PM

Yes, they let drag radials in. I saw Nitto's, BFG drag radials and I was the only one that I knew had Hoosier QTP's
I even saw a Polyglass member wearing his worn out Polys.
Run what you brung they said, so I did.

Saw your car parked but no one was around, glad you got it fixed and home. Was a little disapointed when i saw other cars with dr,s and QTPs, i woild have looked for a pair instead of wheels for my street tires. Had good time over. quallified in the quick 6 for the run off but got smoked by that turbo diesel Ram.

I'll be at or just across from the Chrysler Fiat display at 13th mile and Woodward depending on space. they have an experience track taking up much real-estate at 13th, so I might be thrown across the street somewhere. It's a scrap shoot.
Trying to get there early as to not be stuck in the traffic rut.

I have two sets of rims with drag radials, I went out and bought used wheels/tires just for this...that said, who needs 2 15x8 prostars? haha

I saw your car too, but didn't socialize much after the fuel pump died.
Wish they would let other Mopars in the Dodge shoot out, but yeah, that truck was crazy.

Certainly a thanks to Dodge and Roadkill Nights for putting on a free event. Clearly, no small level of effort.

Overall, I was a little disappointed. I've been to other flashlight drag and this one was a little stuffy. Most of the cars racing were not that interesting, it really was not a grudge race atmosphere, the race cars were some what isolated form the spectators, there was nothing but asphalt, too few food vendors, the fencing made visibility difficult, spectating was not user friendly.

We found Woodward to be much more interesting and fun.

It is unlikely we will go back to the Silverdome.

Re: Woodward - 08/14/15 05:53 PM

Goes to show you, always read the fine print.
With all the sweating on my half over getting a helmet during the early part of the day and finally getting the tires to within pressure to handle my stove, I never realized that the grand prize Hellcat drivetrain was to be dueled only between the Dodges and not the whole field. Shheee, even Plymouths and other Chryslers weren't allowed to compete for the Kitten engine.
Thinking the whole field was going for the prize, I felt I did not want to compete in such a large overall field with a drunk car.
It turned out that the Dodge field was not as large after all. Dahhhh, should have known that Dodge is not going to give away a Hellcat drivetrain to just anybody outside of Mopar to dismantle. I thought they were going to shut down everything at exactly three hours after start due to a curfew so I left early so that I could try and meet cats at the Donut Cutter.
Oh well, much cud's and congrats to the Bee.
Glad he got it.

Re: Woodward - 08/14/15 09:54 PM

Yes, from what I now know.
I found it strange that Plymouths, Chryslers, and AMC's were all separated from us Dodges. Different lanes.
I guess being that Dodge is the remaining Performance arm of the company, and that Dodge was sponsoring the event and giving away the engine and Trans, (6 speed at that,) they only wanted Dodges to race for it.
I did not understand it and other lose rules, time limitations or else I would have stayed in the rounds and blown off going to Woodward.
I love racing after dark. I wonder why.LOL.

Re: Woodward - 08/14/15 10:03 PM

Supposedly, there was no timing system to record ET's and such but an old school street race vibe on who got to the stripe first.
That Bee looked to be in the mid to low 11 second bracket.
Even with a quicker car, it was a very trial and error type of running with all the humps and bumps along the way. I gather (THEY) intentionally kept the course course and rough so that people would not get comfortable and over run their boundaries like that Tin lizzy did at the wall.
The shut down was calling for Murphy's Law with my four way (DRUMS) and I for one was not looking to meet him.
That in itself was the only concern that was mentioned over and over again by the announcers.
