***UPDATE ON 440 SOURCE HEADED STROKER*** - 01/20/09 07:04 AM

I finally dyno tested this 505 cid (4.350x4.250) mopar with 440 source heads that I ported.
9.8:1
custom hyd. roller grind using new xfi lobe
ported source heads
MP dual plane intake
1000HP holley
1 7/8 headers
Made 614TQ @3900rpm and 534HP @5200rpm. Idles nice at 850rpm. Here's a link to the porting post I started a few weeks ago and some pics....

I think I like the choice of valve covers, motor would look stockish painted orange .

Brian nice torque, are those the headers it will have in the car.

No these are our beat up dyno headers. He has shumacher headers, so power will likely go down a bit over these.
I think he plans on painting this thing like a stock engine so only tattle tale is the carb and intake but painted the intake won't be a quick give-a-way.
I was really surprised at the TQ. And even the HP! I figured it might go 500HP but it went quite a bit over that.
I just can't imagine how this DART is going to drive around with stock type tires

DO YOU HAVE FLOW #'S ON THE HEADS THAT YOU PORTED?

At the very top of this page, just above the first pic, there is a link to my post on porting those heads. I did not do a whole heck of alot of porting to them, rather just a mild street port job. No sand rolling, just re-did the valve job, slight chamber work, slight bowl work on intake and more on ex., and opened up the pushrod pinch on the intake side. That was it!

would be interesting to see back to back pulls of that intake vs. an eddie RPM intake...

scratch that, just read in the other post you think it's a copy of the RPM...

Nice torque numbers!

The first time the car owner does a 360 trying to leave an intersection, he might reconsider the tire choice...

LOL...yeah I'd pay $$$ to see the look on his face when he does stab it to see what it's got.

Which of the XFI lobes did you use? I have a XR292HR cam that I was going to slide into my 505 motor for some dyno testing but I haven't gotten to it yet.

Because we're too busy! Just kidding...video will be tonite. Also going to put it on my website when I find time.
I'm using the 3017 lobe for the intake, and 3317 for the exhaust. It's on a 113 lobe center too.

Impressive torque. And its going into a street driven Dart. He will be able to scare some passengers with that car for sure.

Why are the torque and hp crossing paths at 4300rpm?

Hello,

Maybe 5252?

They cross at the right spot. Both are around 530 in the 5250 range. You just have to study the screen for a moment to see it.

This may be a silly question, but what kind of fuel economy could one expect out of something like that.

For example...if it were installed in a 1976 3/4 ton truck.

That massive tq curve and small cam would allow you to keep your foot out of the throttle when towing up big grades.

Funny you should bring this up. Carl, my customer was joking about the "racing" carb I told him to run on this engine. He likes oem stuff so anyways...with some load on the engine at 2300rpm, fuel flow was pretty low. I would imagine your right, but it would depend on the rpm of the engine at your typical cruise speed as to just how much fuel the engine will consume.

I can tell you with a smaller carb than this one, and tuned sharply, fuel mileage might not be so bad...but when you floor it....fogetaboutit

"Why are the torque and hp crossing paths at 4300rpm?"

Because they are using 2 different scales for the HP and TQ.
