Can you still buy dexron 2? or do you mean dexron 3?

I use dexron 3 also.

dexron 3 more than exceeds any specs your mopar trans would have had initially.

Virtually any fluid will work in a caveman auto like a 727, so preference playa a big part.

Newer fluids (like atf +4) are simply better fluids, with better heat properties etc..
Type F is popular because some shift kits recommend it for firmer shifts. Even ford guys ditched it in 79, so I've never been a fan of it.

I'm skeptical of this. We all know how they tell us the new oil specs exceed the requirements of the old oils, and that there isn't enough ZDDP in there for our flat tappet cams. What aren't they telling us about the new ATFs?

Modern ATF's have to be better, because the operating demands of newer applications are much higher. 6 speed autos in cars, Bigger trucks than ever, more power, and of course the fact that no one in the world seems to want to cruise at less than 10 over the speed limit regardless of how big a load they are hauling

Re: Tranny Fluid Which one to use? - 03/20/09 11:32 AM

Easy decision for a cave man or bear,Dextron-3,don't have any trans or converter problems. We have many of our trans/converters with 1000+ runs and only adjust the bands every few years. My 65 has 1750 runs on the trans and only had 1 high gear clutch pack replaced and a 1 reseal.Go figure? Of course what do I know,I don't even know how to set up suspensions, but I must be lucky.

I got years and years out of WalMart Tech 2000.....

Even ran it one time in my dragster after a all night thrash to fix it and wally world was the only place open.

Finished out the year with it, tore it apart that winter to freshen it and it looked fine.....

Is there anything wrong with Dexmerc from Advance or Auto Zone? Should I switch back to Type F? Seems alot of you run type F, that's what I used to run til new tranny builder told me to run DexMerc.
