Oil Leak past billet hold downs

Oil Leak past billet hold downs - 05/15/15 04:33 AM

I have a set of billet rocker arm shaft hold downs / arp studs for a BB. Question is that when I have primed the motor by hand I see a considerable amount of oil weeping past the washer and the hold down itself. The shafts themselves are new so I am ruling out of round issues. I have the shafts torqued to 30lbs. The washers are flat and the top of the holddowns are flat, just concerned with the amount of oil weeping out. Not that I want to jury rig anything, is there a sealant eg: halomar or something that I can put beneath the washer or am I asking for trouble?

Normal. At that point in the oiling system it becomes a low pressure free-for-all. It's the end of the line.
The amount of flow under actual engine operation (as opposed to priming) is MUCH larger. The valvetrain is well lubricated.

Try backing off all the bolts and retorque them to 23 to 25 Ft lbs like the FSM calls for, epsecially if your using stock shafts scope(Hopefully you haven't oblong the shafts now luck scope If your using aftemarket shafts use what the maker suggests up

Thank you both for the information, I will loosen them up and retorque and see if that helps out. When priming the motor the oil that flows out from under the washer hate to say it reminds me of the Golden Corral chocolate waterfall commercial frown
