Mounting slicks - 01/15/09 11:24 PM

I have used tubes in the past mainly because I got tired of always having to put air in them. Some racers say you can stop them from leaking if you use dish soap on the bead when mounting them. Have any of you tried this? If you have, does it work, and what tricks do I need to know?

The dish soap goes all over the inside of the tire. I haven't tried it but I need to. My new Hoosiers will leak down flat overnite.

You put the dish soap on the interior side walls,
a couple 2 or 3 coats.... let it dry between coat

AS Raff said you just need to soap up the sidewalls. I have found Dawn works bets for whatever reason, I use an entire bottle between my slicks, 15x33's.

I use Dawn also. About 1/2 to 3/4 of a bottle for 2 slicks. 32"x 13.5" x 15", Hoosier. I coat, around the inside. None on the bead. Mine are still holding air from november. In a building , with temperature set at 55*. This is the 5th set, without them leaking down.
