Oil filter question

After reading about the k&n oil filters being made in China, are the racing fram filters any good since I usually shop at OReilly`s and don't think they carry wix.

Is there a Napa near by. They usually carry Napa gold and Wix.

I was with a buddy out at the track helping his kid.. when he lost
most of his oil pressure.. this was about 4 or 5 years ago and when
I seen he was running a Fram I went to the local parts store and
picked up 2 qts of oil and a Wix.. changed filters and added a qt
of oil... pressure was right back up to normal... even to this day
both of them keep asking how I knew it wasnt a engine problem.. I
just said and still say... been there

I just saw online today that O'rielly's carries Wix.

Been a Kragens/OReilly customer for years and spent thousands there but also shop at Napa and Auto zone when needed so that's good news and one's right down the street in Vegas which will get most of my business. I thought the Fram hp series were good but guess not.

Wix, Fram, AC Delco, Genuine Toyota, are made in the same factory down under. they don't make every filter in the range but the ones they do are pretty much the same internals. just the paint job on the casing is different.

I've been getting WIX filters from this group discount.

Wix racing filter, 51515R, 28 gpm flow, stock type filters are 7 gpm flow. Napa, I had to order them from their warehouse, about $10.

search youtube on filters look at the contruction, I wouldn't put a fram product on anything. order wix online

Oreilly's here carries Wix. NAPA gold is a Wix filter.

I think its bobstheoilguy where you can see many oil filters he has opened up.

Thankxxx guys I'll look into the wix filters but need good filtration since I drive my dart way more than I race so not sure on the racing filters.

I just use the normal Wix filter on my stuff. Wix 51515 or Napa Gold 1515

Both are good, IMO. I run the 51515 on my street BB, and the 51515R on my race engine

It's useless to try to talk sense about filters, they are like a religion.

From a lubrication point of view, the oil filters people put on their automobiles aren't much more than screens to keep the larger particles out.

If one was truly interested in filtering, one would use in addition to the screen oil filter, a bypass or "kidney loop" filter arrangement with a 5 micron absolute filter. Now, THAT would be real filtering. It'd also probably be beneficial to collect varnish.

In any discussion about oil filters, there are so many "facts" thrown around that are just so much horsemanure.

The real question that no one asks is what is the filtering media? If the filter doesn't use synthetic filter media it's a waste to put a lot of worry into filter selection.

Making filters out of ground-up trees doesn't give much selection as to particle size, because the fibers and the resultant holes are all over the map.
The fact that cellulose fiber filters work for automobiles is indicative of the fact that the filter doesn't do very much.

Synthetic fibers can have size controlled much more closely and result in more uniform holes. They filter better. They do cost more. If you truly believe that the oil filter has an effect on engine life or performance, you should be willing to spend the extra $ to get a better filter.

Most all particles in a broken-in engine come from the air side of the engine. Air filters knock most of this out, so the filter now is there mainly to collect particles generated by a failure that is taking place.

But most of you don't want to know the real facts about oil filtration and instead enjoy engaging in wars about whose religion will get you to Heaven faster.

Such a waste of effort.

Just my opinion, but if you are not paying at least $10 for a filter ( pick a brand ) you are buying cheap stuff and putting your motor at risk. Buy a few 2,3,4 $ filters and cut them up - measure the can and base plate thickness. Then do the same thing with a 10,11,12 $ filter. You will quickly see the difference. Improved quality in filtering media will also be visibly apparent. Cheap insurance!

I run a Napa Gold AKA WIX on the Demon, and a Baldwin on the Ramcharger and I couldn't be happier.

I just put one of the WIX super long Industrial size Filters (since I have a remote mount) I need as much weight in front on the Rocky as possible, lol). It takes the standard 'FL-1A' Mopar/Ford V8 base.

It probably holds 2 quarts and should (all else being equal) have a lower pressure drop as the Standard Wix/Napa Gold many of us use.

I would think on a race car you're not wanting/needing so fine a filtration (as smaller/finer filtration generally equates to a higher proportional restriction/pressure drop)... oil pressure supply back to the bearings at the higher RPM's is really much more critical.

A little extra oil is always good, but don't count on the larger filter with more filtering surface area improving the pressure drop as that often is not the "bottle neck". Also, improved filtration often does not equate to the size of the filter area, not to mention we have a tendency to way over kill the change interval.

I bought a bushel full of Mobil 1 filters a few years ago when a local chain had them on sale for $4, they have worked fine and look to be made to a hi quality standard with a thick canister.

The good Carquest filters were made by Wix for years. Since Advanced bought out Carquest, they are switching to Champ. When everyone is in a race to the bottom pricewise, this is what you get.
