Fresh PTC Converter - 04/05/15 09:13 AM

Got my PTC modded converter back and trans is in the car as of tonight. Still need to bolt on the extras, driveshaft / starter/ etc..

The fine young man at PTC told me it will stall about 4500 . Perfect.

Thats what i want and thats what i told the hacks at Dynamic last year. I didnt race ONE day in 2014 thanks to Dynamic Transmission.
The 1st time i got the converter back , it stalled at 6200.
Sent it back (on my dime) and then it stalled at 3500 .
UN-acceptable, never again. And yes, they had the exact info on my entire combo from day 1 .

I hope to fire up my Dart next week and stand on the brake---Ill post back, but I will buy everyone a steak dinner if this thing doesnt stall at 4400--4700 rpm !!!

I really want to root for you on this. But with a steak dinner in the balance, it is hard to.

Our Challenger has a PTC convertor, it's worked flawlessly for us, so I hope you like yours too.

So is this 4500 stall speed dead on? I'm hoping for 7k... how are you arranging these steak dinners? Do I simply send you the receipt from the local steak joint? Grocery store receipt? How big of steak can I get? I want Ted to verify this stall speed. Looking forward to my dinner on you!

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 04/06/15 10:49 AM

I will take you up on your steak dinner bet.
PTC makes a decent conv but he was not that good in my case.
I had my issues with his convertors, he was Great on his customer relations and service with me, he made me 3 different convertors and none stalled as he said plus he had the build sheet and dyno sheet.
First 1 I broke, he replaced and updated it, I broke it again.
Got a whole new convertor from him but he didn't send the conv build card back to the shop that said No More NOS on the car, that conv was a PIG in my car, 1/2 seconds slower NA then the 1st conv.
3rd conv was another New one made for me from build sheet, 8" conv
he said it would stall high, I asked how high he said 5700 I said GREAT that is where it needs to be. It stalled at 6200 when I tried it with the brake. He offered to redo it but I had enough of taking the trans in and out for 1 year 4 times was enough. I did have my best 60' with it and it was consistent. I sold the car a year later.

Would I use a PTC convertor again??? Probably yes because of price but I wouldn't bet a steak dinner on it's stall. Kenny is a Great Guy.

UCC will get all my business until he stops making converters or I quit racing. 😉

well when you use that many you're bound to find one that works!

....and I totally agree with Eric's statement. I have no reason to go with anyone else.

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 04/09/15 02:14 PM

Hope it works out good for you! I have a bunch of friends that love their PTC converters. I've only had one, didn't turn out good, but it wasn't exactly their fault.

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 05/01/15 01:44 AM

Well that took a while. Had to make a steel motor mount and added steel plates from engine to frame , also needed a new oil pump.

Fired right up and sounds nice .....warmed her up , checked the trans fluid ..and hit the T-brake = 4800 rpm .

Thanks PTC !!! up

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 05/02/15 03:24 AM

Glad to hear you are happy with this converter. I see where some have good luck with a converter company and some dont as you hear that alot. I have used 3 Dynamic converters and all worked great in our cars. But I guess no one is perfect. I have not used PTC but most seem to like them so I wish you good luck and I am glad the PTC converter works good for you. Ron

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 05/02/15 07:59 AM

Went to test tonight - PTC NAILED it. Converter works perfect . Car pulled like a mule all the way down track . I had some hooking probs , like usual,, but Ive never noticed the car pinning me in the seat at the end of the track like this .

I had all kinds of problems with the car tonight--glad I went to "test-n-tune" ! So i need to sort all that out and get some good air to test again

I think i found a rear shock setting the car likes (stiffer) --it picked up about a tenth from the previous 2 runs up

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 05/02/15 08:15 AM

Because the converter worked so good , and my temporary glee....i feel i should be released from my "free steaks for everyone " wager .

I agree with CAB = my tach is 100 rpm off....making it 4700 !!

Yes?

(im kinda broke at the moment )

Re: Fresh PTC Converter - 05/02/15 03:08 PM

How about this for a dynamic story?

Many years ago when I switched from racing Chevy to mopar I was building an engine. I knew I was pressed for time to make a race date. I would need a good mopar converter to go behind my new mill. Heard from a few guys that dynamic was ok. Called up, and told the over anxious sales guy I wanted a converter and needed to know how long to get one. He said 2 weeks to make, and whatever shipping time. I asked if i could pay now for my place in line, and when I dyno the motor give you the info. To which he replied, "absolutely, we do that all the time". Perfect,,, I thought.

One week later a converter shows up on my door from guess who. Motor has yet to be dynoed, car weight undetermined, no provision for mid plate, essentially not one piece of information from me necessary to build a converter.

When I confronted them about it, all they would say is, "just try it man, we know what we're doing". No anti balloon plate on this enormous converter either. Had to tell them to take it back, or I'd have my card company deal with it.

PTC is straight shooting, accurate, and fast. What more could you ask for?
