I'd be looking for a cam with 110-115 lobe separation if I were planning to run a 250+ shot. Someone will have good advise on lift/duration for that combo. Personally I run lower compression pistons on my NOS motors. Spraying 250+ is going to stretch a 4:56 gear in a 1/4 mile.

I've been looking for a cam that has a wider lsa but I'm coming up with nothing.

Nobody must run nitrous on their Mopars anymore!

On my 496 my Hughes cam is installed at 105 degrees and 108 degree lobe separation. I have sprayed 200 shot so far and I will be spraying 300 shot next time out. I do drive this on the street occasionally, with a cam with a higher lobe separation I would think the motor might be a little more lazy when not spraying. If this was a dedicated Nitrous motor then I would choose a Nitrous cam. My motor is apart now and getting freshened up. I"m going to make a cam change after getting my heads back from Fastlane Machine and seeing what they flow. What is your plan for your motor? Nitrous only? Matt

Hughes will grind any of their cams on a wider lobe center.

My old 440 had Eddie Rpm's, and a 304/640 Ultradyne flat tappet. Ten teens on motor typically in a 2850 lb car, with a glide, and 4.56s. 9.60's on a 225 hit. 8.96-146 with a second 200 stacked on top, had to go to 4.30 gears to get to 149 mph. It was not a particularly efficient cam on Nitrous!

My brother's Gremlin has a 440 with Indy SR heads and a howards flat tappet 272@ .50, 639 lift on a 108, and he's been 8.95 at 3000 lbs, but spraying a ton. 4.56's and a glide, and the gear really hurts him.

My first recommendation would be, a tight aggressive 9" or bigger convertor, and 4.30 or 4.10 gear, that will be more important than the nuances of a flat tappet cam.

That's why you don't run an off the shelf cam. Just b/c it isn't in the Jeg's catalog doesn't mean it isn't available.

The problem with flat tappets, especially for a Mopar, is that you CAN'T spread the lobes out, if there is not a blank available that will support that. BLANKS are the problem, there aren't any. Now you could do a custom billet flat tappet, but why? If you are going to spend that, get a roller

When thinking about a nitrous street/strip motor consider do you want to maximize performance when on the spray? If you choose a cam designed to maximize performance naturally aspirated you compromise performance on the button. Personally when I'm driving the car on the street I'm not racing so I'm OK trading naturally aspirated power for an overall faster car on the button.

Weight, tire, compression and gear, looks like a track car. It he wants it to run best on spray, it needs the right cam. An "in between" cam will be a compromise in both areas. All depends on what you want. Something with a short LSA will generally have more overlap and more cylinder pressure as well. Pressure will make it timing sensitive and too much overlap will blow part of a large dose of spray out the pipes. Now before it starts, I realize that JUST a longer LSA doesn't "fix" things........but, when you get the opening and closing numbers where they NEED to be, to be effective, longer LSA comes with that and getting those numbers is a problem with limited blanks

Thanks Monte for commenting even though I pm ya on YB.

I don't have his card handy but his old cam was 288/298 .639/.649 on a 110.... I think

I'm thinking of having Comp grind another one but on a 112
