I have a rear sump pan and the dipstick hole is in the front, how do i make it work? the pan is baffled to keep from flying out of the sump.

The stick in the front will work.. the oil will seek
its level... the baffles are not oil tight

So i should fill the pan past its sump up to the front of the pan? It flattens out for about an inch deep until it hits the sump. so should i fill the pan up to about 1/2 from the top?

Is the stick the stock one for that engine.. just fill
to the normal height

Sounds like you have same problem as me. The front of my pan next to the dipstick is so shallow that the stick hits the bottom of the pan. No way do I want the oil level that high. Still thinking about what I'm going to do. Site glass tube, relocate dipstick tube to the pan.

Sounds like you have same problem as me. The front of my pan next to the dipstick is so shallow that the stick hits the bottom of the pan. No way do I want the oil level that high. Still thinking about what I'm going to do. Site glass tube, relocate dipstick tube to the pan.

Is the stick hitting the pan or the baffle.. if its
hitting the baffle just drill a hole in it for the
stick to go down through
EDIT
If the OP has a pan like Doug is talking about I would
just weld in a port on the pan... is it steel or
alum either way... weld a bung on the side for the
stick to mount in.. just put it to clear everything
(inside and out)

A couple of questions.. are you trying to find out
what the pan holds and is the pan like Doug said about
the front at the stick... is the pan on the engine
and in the car or is it on the engine stand

the pan is like doug said its to shallow in the front and i would have to have 8 quarts in a 7 quart pan just to register. I didnt think about the bung idea but it might be my only option. The motor is still on the stand.

Rear sump van pans have a channel built in to place the stick to the deep part of the pan. Not sure if trucks are similar, but van pans come off easy. If you could find one, you could replicate the channel and calibrate the stick. The stick is quite long.

Not the same pan but might give you an idea. Lokar dipstick also.

Even a O-ring style would work in that application
