This is my kind of race track - 03/25/15 07:05 PM

I remember when I went to a similar track. My crew chief looked out my RV window and said " I don't see another white guy." fun times

Thats how it is here in NC. Half of my business is cars/customers that race like that and on the street.

Buddy of mine was stationed at Fort Benning in Ga. Went to visit him one time and he took me out to a track near the base. I was blown away at all the side betting that took place. Can't remember the tracks name.

Stephen...That Headhunter dragstrip is nicer than Mckenzie Dragstrip (Rico)!!! They have a "tower". I kinda like those little tracks...makes for an interesting day at the track.

I was stationed there also.. I raced at the local
track.. a un-stanctioned place... won a good share
of money there.. at that time I had the fastest car
on Ft Benning.. I had multiple car lots wanting to
buy my car.. I finally did.. it was a 70 442 W-30
4 speed... I made good money on that sale.. it didnt
last a single day on the car lot

What year was it that you were there? Steve was like 93-95 about there. probably same track. Steve ran his 318 72 duster at the track with guys betting on him. There was a big old chevy mid to late 70/80's full size that would twist on the line really good. Nasty ugly car but it ran hard.

So did you go across the river to Phenix Dragstrip or go north to LaGrange Dragway?

DunnBenson in NC was just like that when I went 16 years ago. $5 to get in the gate whether you were a spectator or racing. They were betting on EVERYTHING!

One of my local tracks is like that but the white black ratio is more like 50/50.

Re: This is my kind of race track - 03/26/15 02:53 AM

I was at this race, I've never seen so many people at this track, they had to turn people away.
Some fast cars and some junk, I watched a silver s10 pickup launch and the battery come flying out of the bed!

Reminds me of the old days at Lassiter Mtn. They tell me they cleaned it up and widened it now, but man, there was some serious iron there and a lot of money changing hands at the fence!
On a good night, a couple of fights too.....

Looks NOTHING like I remember. Cool to see them investing in the track.

That's an every weekend thing at many tracks in the south. Grudge and no clocks racing is REALLY big right now, all over, but really in the south.

But the bottom line is , the people are there, lots of them, and they all look to be having fun. I wonder if that was normal attendance or what brought them all out. My experience is not many spectators anymore.

Surely not at a bracket race; "regular people" don't understand it.

Anything "heads up" is pretty easy to follow: Don't red-light, beat the other guy to the stripe, you win!

Street racing around here had (has?) that same craziness to it, so it that doesn't surprise me. Loud talk, money, tons of b.s., and - sometimes - even a race.

Looks like a fun time. Looks like the average height of the crowd is about 6'3" lol

Re: This is my kind of race track - 03/27/15 03:17 PM

That looks lie a ton of fun.
A little wild around the line , but spectating would be a gas.

Re: This is my kind of race track - 03/28/15 05:08 AM

A buddy and me went down there a couple years ago.....we towed 6 hours and took his turbo caprice out one night looking for some action and met up with some guys and went and hung out with fellow racers.....made it to the track the next day...this is when the supercharged caprice (super clean) light blue caprice use to race up there but the owner passed a bit ago....he was racing the dam yankee or something like that...we learned that weekend that drag radials dont work on these type tracks!
