Im with Wild Bill and MR.P,
I run the B&M Pro Ratchet, and it is flawless after all these years.
But if i found a smoking deal on a PPP shifter, then i would buy it.

Im a Street / Strip guy.... using a B&M Quicksilver. Bought it because I liked the look. Found that I love the way it works and It's real solid feeling. Manual VB 727, so I'm up & down the gears all the time on the street, and I've never missed a shift

My street car has a Quick Silver which works excellent. But I prefer this.

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 03:35 AM

Turbo Action Cheetah SCS.... It's been a hate/love relationship. It was a miserable POS with the reverse pattern gate. Easy to miss a shift or overshift, sloppy feel from N-1-2. This shifter is dependent on the "rooster" comb on the trans and has no built in detents. I recently swapped in a clean N trans brake, and changed the gate on the shifter. It is 100% better with the new gate..... but "unfortunately" a PPP clean N shifter w/t airshift came up for sale and I picked that up. No doubt, look in every serious race car these days....you'll find a PPP.

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 03:41 AM

Reverse manual 727: I had a B&M Mega shifter, loved it but sold it for a Cheetah shifter...I could not get used to it, I'd get excited in the later rounds and pull it from 1st to 3rd, it was my problem, not the shifter, I'd pull instead of slap it to shift

Sold it and installed a B&M Pro Ratchet with a pistol grip and I love it, never missed a shift, but guess what? After watching my Go Pro in car vids...I slap it?

I'd say the best shifter depends on the guy shifting it. One size does not fit all.

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 03:56 AM

The gate in my hand was the "reverse manual" pattern TA supplies. As you can see you had P at the top, R, over the stop to N, and then 1-2.....all three positions inline, you can see where this would cause issues. It was actually doing to 1-2 shift on it's own launching off the brake. The gate I installed is soooo much better. 1'st gear is at the stop, down to 2nd where it moves over ready for 3, and then you have to pull it over for the last N.

another point is the TA shifter being a gate shifter you still rely on the N safety in the trans. Most "ratchet" shifters give you the option of having the N safety feature run off a switch in the shifter itself.

It's been in my car for 21 years and I never missed a shift

Cheetah reverse pattern. I can see how making the accidental 1-2 shift could be a problem although it's never happened to me, and my car is slow enough not to worry about it happening on its own. It's smooth, easy, and reliable.

PPP because you have options on set up. I like to push on the upshift and they can do that with a reverse pattern valve body.

I have a kilduff lightning rod in one truck and the column shifter in my other one. While the lightning rod is gimicky (fake lenco) it works awesome for what I do, mud bogging.

PPP, I like the rear entry cable configuration. It eliminates the routing issues around the headers & starter, much easier to adjust.

Is a rear exit shift cable the best setup for a street car with full exhaust?
Posted By: GY3

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 06:56 PM

ANY Mopar benefits from a rear exit shifter cable IMO.

Clearing the starter, header and torsion bar can be a real challenge with the front exit cables!

... I have to rap the shifter cable with high
temp covering just to make sure it doesnt burn.. no
big deal.. but if I could get a rear exit on the
pro ratchet that would be the ultimate ... JMO

Wrapped mine for sure and did a little creative bending of the bracket during install to keep it away from heat and redirect it's path.

Too bad no one makes an aftermarket setup similar to a slapstick with an adjustable metal rod instead of a cable!

Well I was going to put a B&M Pro Ratchet in my GTX build but now I am leaning towards the PPP. The rear exit is too good to pass up.

How do you even put a front exit cable with a CSR shield? I have a Cheetah in my race car with the rear entry and it is wonderful to have the rear entry, but the Cheetah is not a street shifter.

I burnt 1 shifter cable using the pro ratchet.. that
was the very first cable.. it was a bit short and I
didnt cover it.. I was being brave.. since then I
use a longer cable and I DONT use the heavy duty one..
they are a lot stiffer and harder to bend to clear
things... but I heat wrap it just to be sure... never
burnt up another... I'll wrap it just so I can use
the shifter I like... this cable has been in there
14 years now

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 09:54 PM

I agree, as much as I love my Pro-Ratchet, a rear exit cable would be awesome. Although I did ditch the 5' cable for a 4' cable and that made life easier in my Duster. I also added a 3' heat sleeve for cheap from Summit for added protection.

Quicksilver here. Hated it with a full manual valve body on the street. Cant wait to try out the transgo shift kit I installed over the winter.

Re: Which automatic shifter are you using !!?? - 03/11/15 10:16 PM

I use the pistol grip Quarter Stick with a T/A Cheetah Forward Manual Valve Body on the street and LOVE the way it works!

Managing the reverse lockout can be a pain but it's not like I have to reverse often anyway.

I have, however, installed the TransGo TF-2 in a lot of transmissions I've built for myself and other people and it works really well if you don't want to shift all the time. Used in conjunction with the high rpm upshift governor it makes for a nice setup on the street!

Been there done that. But my question is with the CSR shield right up against the floor boards, isn't the location where the shifter cable goes through the floor be in the same spot as the CSR shield? Is it possible to use a front exit shifter with the CSR shield?

I run that shield also.. I forget where the cable
goes through the firewall but its not far from the gas
pedal.. so its outside of the shield.. on the Rampage
I have the cable on top of the carpet(for now) but
if it runs a year with this routing I will put it
under the carpet.. IF it burnt the cable I didnt
want to have to lift the carpet.. but I figure by
1 year I should know.. so far so good
EDIT
I do have a black cover over it now... but it will
go under the carpet if its good
