New KOS race starting - Huntsville Dragway May 1-3 - 03/09/15 05:03 PM

This is an afterthought at what is starting to be another big radial race, but I do not think the promoters know what they are getting into. I am busting my butt to get the Demon ready with the Mega / 440-1 540. Anyone else thinking a SE KOS race would be fun?

There are some pretty fast street cars around here.

They ran it last year and took the cars on a 30 mile cruise I believe. Can't remember how fast of a car won it, but wasn't real fast. Some turbo car I think, ran high 5s I think

I think Tim Oswalt ran a 4.99 to win the class.

They had a requirement that the car should be ABLE to cruise 30 miles and that was later dropped. They just added the part about no 275 pros, and last week added the firewall exhaust rule. This is wide open IMO and should be pretty good. You know the track will be well prepped.

The biggest drawback I see is guys who drive to the race will not have a pit spot when they return. I am trying to get interest in them putting the KOS cars in the same area if they drive and do not make a pit.

The track is 5 miles from my place if anyone is going and needs a place to camp / park overnight.

If they don't make them cruise..........what's the point, it's just another race car class. The guy behind starting the class, Pat Herron, wanted something for "real" street cars. No cruise, you don't get that

BS. I am surprised that you of all people have that position given what you want to do with your GTX. This is an open class street car race and should be a blast to run in / watch. My car fits perfectly.

Makes me think you're just pissed that you will be "working" instead of playing.

Let's hope the weather is good and the 'naders stay away.

Being 'able to' cruise 30 miles and actually 'doing it' are 2 separate things.

What the hell are you talking about. I could care less what they do. And my car will be a RACE CAR and I will have no reason to run it in a "street driven car" class.........but be assured, without the cruise stipulation, SOMEBODY will, because they will think it will be easy for them to win...........What is so hard for you to grasp here. If you are going to call this a class for "street driven" cars........make em prove it. Otherwise it is just another race car class.

Without a cruise, you'll have a bunch of race cars filling up the class. Happens a lot around here. Once had a mustang w/ a big cube sb chevy on alcohol, no radiator, no alternator, etc. Even though the cruise really doesn't prove much, it still scares off most of the race cars in disguise.

FWIW...around here there's a few cars that regularly run bottom 5s in the 1/8 that can drive all day w/ no problem. One has supposedly been 4.90s. These classes are dominated by fox mustangs w/ turbo GM LS engines.

Well that brings up why I even posted this in the first place. There WILL be a ton of rustangs and turbo chebbies, and who knows what else. I was hoping to see more Mopars in the race.

We'll see what / who they let in but with the Mean street $2500 hanging in there hopefully guys like Shane Stack don't put on a tag and insure their car so they can take the moolah. From my perspective a open class street legal deal is just cool. My car will certainly not be a winning contender with that heavy azz mega 540 but so what?

BTW, looking at the little flyer for the March Memphis radial race all I see is quick 8 street cars and the SO guys. There must be something to guys liking a fast street legal car.

Anybody think they may make this race?

I don't think you should lose much sleep over anybody with a fast radial car getting tags and insurance. No offense to anybody but there isnt a Mopar product on planet earth that can run with the likes of the true street cars like in NMRA or any other little series. And the one "street car" from TV is at a shop down that way getting switched to alcohol set up as we speak. Dont fool yourself they arent street cars. some might look that way but their not street cars. Sorry

Well my car has tags, insurance, the lights mostly work and if I feel like driving it down the road to fetch some beer I can do so. It is not a DD, fuel is expensive, creature comforts besides the response to mashing the gas pedal and the sound of the motor are non-existent. But instead of the car sitting and waiting for me to trailer it to the track I can get out on nice days and enjoy it.

And there is a race class for it coming up. Cheap to enter, so far 100% payback (not that I will be seeing any of the payout), at a great race too. If it weren't for my concern of keeping my parking place while I am in the lanes I would drive the car to the race and back home.

IMO a lot better than the "street" class that they will have at Memphis later this month IMO. A guy from all the way up in Delaware won that last year.

I don't think you understand. Just because it has "STREET" in the name of the class does not mean they are street cars.

That car has a one piece front end on it, plastic headlights and no raditor. It is towed to the lanes and back. It doesn't even have plates.

I say drive it to the track, just put your lawn chair and
beer in your spot while you,re racing, no need to trailor a street car esp if you live that close

I like the lawn chair idea. So nobody wants to come out and play KOS around here and support the class? Yeah, real street (sorta, we'll see how the self-teching goes), not Memphis street.

As a sign of just how serious the promoter is about making the HSV radial race a big deal, they are going to bring in the traction twins to prep the track and have a test session next Wednesday, wx permitting. I think the idea is to get some of the cars that will be running at Memphis to see how well the HSV track works. I may have to skip out of work to watch...

The traction twins live in Colorodo and do the prep for PDRA. And they are literally twins. Jason and Tyler not so much.
