INDY 572 - 13 Head Porting / Flow question

INDY 572 - 13 Head Porting / Flow question - 01/11/09 02:23 AM

I notice INDY lists two different specs on the 572-13 heads...

one is the CNC-365 and one is CNC-385

The 365 is listed for a C.I.D of 528"-572"

The 385 is listed for a C.I.D of 572"-605"

I know the CC vol,,and Flow are different for each head...

Question:
How do you decide which to choose IF you were doing a 572 Wedge motor ?

Does it depend more on "what" your using the motor for ? (in general),,what other things do you have to consider when choosing....

Just doing some research

Can you guys give me some idea on what type of valve train components that are used/recomended for the 572 INDY head as well,,,, Jesel ?,,,

Thanks,,,,

Doug

Thanks Poppj,,,i thought it was the Jesel stuff....
(i thought you guys were running a 572,,or Casey was ?),,if so,,would be curious to hear the setup,,(block, heads, etc that were used)

Smokenwoody,,just looking for now,,,not ready to purchase anything,,,building a "parts" list so i know what to do. Those heads sure look nice,,,,do you have numbers on what Hensley did with them ?,,,port/flow,,etc,,are you selling them with the Jesel valvetrain stuff,,,etc ? thanks,,,

Can anyone comment on the difference in flow numbers,,and the two different port options,,,,and which would be best for a 572 motor,,,,

Most would agree B1 Orignal, It probably wont cost you much more money if any at all. I wished I would have went with B1's years ago.

RT,,,
Thanks,,,i know the B1 stuff is nice,,,
I am going for a 572 NSS motor,,, i know alot of those guys are running the INDY intake,,dual carbs,,etc,,to "comply" with the NSS "rules"..
your sig says HEMI coming soon ?,,

Yep,
Im going after a similar plan as yours. I am also looking to build a NSS car, well one that will fit into one of the class rules anyway.

YOU will soon Have a PM.

Yea we are running a 588 (poppaJ's car I just drive it)

indy aluminum block
572-13 385's, some work done to them
jesel 1.7 rockers
callies crank
spray bar oiling on them as well
oliver rods
ross pistons...

made 1080hp on the dyno (tunnel ram and 2 1050's)

makes a bit less with them crossram...

Casey

but we will have a new set up to try here shortly on it.

Good luck with the build!!

Casey,,,NICE,,,
Do you recall what kind of numbers it ran with the crossram,,,,
Do you recall who did the carb work ,,,,
I am going for something very similar,,,,INDY alum block, 572 heads, etc,,,havent pulled the trigger,,,still "looking" into things,,,

Damon Kuhn from Diamondback racing engines did the carbs.

And we never got any good numbers with the crossram set up... it went 9.70's at 140, but just had a lot od problems with the tranny... should be faster just didnt get out much last year. It was in the 7's in a chassis car with the tunnel ram of course....

SUPERSTOCKRACER has been 9.20's with more or less the same set up.

depending on the race weight, and the final engine/chassis combo, and desired performance level.....i'd also consider the 440-1 CNC345's.

id personally forget the 572 and go to a 588 4.625 stroke, in a heavy car you'll need all the power you can get.
poppaj and my engine combo is very similar.i use T & D roller rockers, dont skimp on any part if you want to go fast.
im going 9.20-9.22 all motor and footbraking on 10.5 tire for NSS. now and building a B1 motor for the new combo to go in the mid to upper 8's this year.
