Tire Selection

Tire Selection - 01/23/15 07:28 PM

I have never looked into radial drag tires before but now I found a tire size that fits exactly what I want.

What is your expierence with radial tires.

The car had 28x10.5 Stiff wall Hoosier and hooked real well. I need a taller tire to get the gearing right on the money.

Any help would be great!

im pretty sure hoosier makes a 30x10 radial slick, ive never run a radial slick-ran drag radials but im talking about a slick but we have a customer that does and he got another 2-3 mph out of them, I would think hooking would prove more difficult but I am certainly no expert. drag radials need a well prepped(for drag radials) suspension and I hated running them personally but there are cars that haul ass on them

If you are talking about a radial drag slick

I have run both m/t and hoosier 30x9 drag radial slicks.

The m/t slick hooked good on a good track but if they spin at the hit your done they will not recover. I got less than 50 runs before the thread showed and they went away all at once!!

The Hoosiers hook great again on a good track, they will recover somewhat better if they spin. I have over 50 runs my set and the still look good.

Biggest thing with a radial slick is the track prep has to be good for them to work. Put 18-24 psi in them and enjoy the ride.

My car picks up over a tenth with radials vs a bias slick.

I have a set of 315/60 M/T drag radials on 10 in rims and a set of 29.5/10.5 W slicks on 14 in rims. I went to a test & tune and tried both and ran a .11 faster with the Drag Radials and dead hooked with both. It was 1/8 mile track.

Yes I'm looking at Drag Slick Radials

I'm looking at these tires:
Hoosier - 30.0/10.5R-15 Radial***
The car is a 4-speed car that has about 550HP to the tire. Cal Tracs, Cavert Mono leaf, Rancho 9000 shock
1969 Roadrunner

Because of the shock on the tire?

Yes, four speeds and radials don't mix well. You can make it work but you will pull your hair out for a year trying to get it.

I have also heard from guys running 4-speeds that they cant get the radial slicks to work good with 4-speeds. And I have heard that from alot of 4-speed drivers as they run Bias.
As for me I love the 30 x 9 radial slicks I run on my 63 but of course its an automatic. They work good for me with the auto. To bad they wont work good with stick cars. Ron

I will have to go out in the garage and look as they list two different circumference 30 x 9 radial tires from Hoosier and I need to loo at the tire to remember which I used. I will try to get out in the garage tomorrow. Ron
