Street/Strip A-body - Best Clutch-Bell-Flywheel Combo? - 11/20/14 04:09 PM

I'm looking at starting from scratch on a combo for a street/strip Duster build (will end up being about 3,400lbs). 340 resto block, stroked to 440 cubes, 550-600HP, TTI 17/8" W2 headers, stock power steering, suspension, etc. Will be running M/T Street ET tires. What flywheel, clutch, bell housing would you guys recommend for this combo? It will be getting a lot of street duty, I want something stout that fits, and still drivable in traffic.

Here's my suggestion:
20 lb SFI flywheel
Centerforce dual Friction pressure plate and disk.

My 60s got way better when going from lightened to full weight steel flywheel.
Mild 408 at 3780lbs.

This is the way I'd go. Actually went this way, but with a big block stroker instead of a small block stroker.

I love the McLeod RST dual disc setup in my duster. Smooth as silk, light pedal pressure, and capable of holding some serious power. Mine is hooked to a 130T SFI steel flywheel inside a Lakewood scattershield. No way will I go back to a single disc setup.

Thanks for the input guys. Any specifics, brand, aluminum, steel, part#'s, etc. concerning the flywheels?

There's not a lot of choice in bellhousings but the best bet for an A -body is the QuickTime unit as it is smaller in the tunnel so butchery should be minimal. McLeod units are okay, try their adjustable 'softlok'-type units, or better yet contact Tim Hyatt at Hyatt Racing for that need. Headers are too big, 2" primary tops, the rest might just be trial and error, good luck!

as far as bellhousing, nothing short of scattershield unless you drive it like an old lady. your feet are more important!
