Radial slicks ?

Radial slicks ? - 01/06/09 01:15 AM

I can get my hands on some 30 x 9 radial slicks that are used but in very good shape. I now run Hoosier QTP bias 29 x 11.5 tires. I thought I might give the radial slicks a try to see if the car likes them but I have never ran radial slicks. I have heard they are a bit faster. Anybody think its worth the trouble for me to mount them and try them ? Thanks , Ron

I ran them then I was running a 30" tall tire...10-.15 quicker..more stable on the big end you run 20+ on air pressure in them...they wear out quick..

if they are hoosiers they have two different circs a 92.5 and a 94 or 95. if your car has more rpm left in the traps with the bias plies it might not with the radials they do not grow as much. I love mine went from a 28X12.5 et street to the short 30X10.5's my car loved 'em

About a tenth to a tenth and a half quicker, but more rpm in the lights. Go for it!

I knew they dont grow as much as my QTP Hoosier's so thats why I figure I may be ok since my Hoosier's are 29's and the radials are 30's. I like my trap rpm right now as its pushing 6300 in the lights but it still feels like it has some steam left. I think I will give it a try. Ron

The only bad thing about radial slicks compared to bias ply is that they are more sensitive to track conditions. They will have a tendency to spin sooner under marginal conditions and can spin worse when they do.

Personally, I use the lightweight, 94" circumference, 9" Hoosier radials.

I ran Hoosier 30x9 radial slicks. My Duster picked up .1 with them.
I didn't have trouble with them hooking until they were pretty well worn out.

Most of the time I ran 22 - 23 PSI.

One thing - You don't need to do John Force burn-outs with Radials. Spin em until the first puff of smoke and go.

You don't need to switch them from side to side either until they start to wear out.

I would get about 130 - 140 runs out of a set.
Radials are very popular with the Stock Eliminator crowd.

Hoosier rep told us to swap them after about 10 runs then only make a pass or 2 and swap them back. It makes a differance. We run Hoosier 10.5x30 radials. You are correct about the burnout. Just a little smoke and go.
