TTI headers for a hemi e body

TTI headers for a hemi e body - 10/28/14 02:42 AM

building a 528 for my car. street/strip car, more street than strip. trying to think what size header should i put on it. 2 1/8" is my first choice because of fitting better. but i keep thinking of upgrades down the road, is 2 1/4" that much worse to install? im making the car for manual steering/brakes. not sure on what im going to do with mounts, im open to a nice motor plate but would like to do a stock style mount like a schumaker. a pump gas street car is all this car will ever be but im sure i'll always want to "tinker" with it especially being my first hemi. any input is greatly appreciated folks!

I hate my Hemi headers. I would go the smaller 2 1/8 they're enough of a PITA to deal with.

I have the TTI 2 1/4" primary 4" collector headers on my 572" hemi in my '70 cuda. The front end is all stock stuff, except for the motorplate. Had to cut part of the original motor mount bracket off the K frame on the driver's side only. Manual steering and manual brakes.
I only had to clearance one tube on the passenger's side to clear the torsion bar. Other than that, they fit great!

Depending on how your motor is built, the 2 1/8" headers will likely be plenty big. They will probably make for a better street/strip header since they will make more lowend torque, especially if your hemi is fairly mild. Not to mention fitting better.
I went w/ the big ones b/c I wanted every last bit of power I could get (over 800 on just the motor, then there's the nitrous) and I can put up w/ a lot on the street.

I know my build is pretty mild. Pump gas, solid roller with 240ish @ .050 and around 600 lift. I'm going to run a mod man intake with 2 (I hate to say it because I like holleys) 750 edelbrock carbs because I'm after a stock look. Maybe some day more camshaft and a crossram with 2 holleys. But this is mostly a street car. I think 2 1/8 headers would be fine too its just i keep thinking of "more" down the road. Thanks guys

My 528 is built for lowend as well, 570 lift solid, ported heads, 10,5-1 compression, 2 1/8 headers. I think on a 528 even with a fairly large roller the bigger headers would only add 30HP, I could be wrong though.

Thanks: Seems like kind of the same setup you're going to run.

When I installed my 528 a few years back in a 69 charger spoke with Tim Banning @ FHO and he said 2 1/8 is all I would ever need on a street car.
There were a tight enough fit at that
