I finally got an 8 second pass! - 10/25/14 03:35 PM
Last night I went to Lonestar Dragway for some T&T. I met up with Damon(Fugly), GTS Dave and another friend Doug. First pass off the trailer was a 9.03.i felt the car spin. The second pass I lowered the tire pressure. I ran a new best of 8.96. I want to thank Damon Kuhn for all his help. He has found some things on the car that needed adjustments and has been helping me tune the car. He is responsible for the car progressively running better. Thanks Damon!

Congrats Tom!
I have video of the 9.03 pass. Looked at it this morning and you spun pretty hard. I had a feeling it was only a matter of time before you got your 8sec pass. I am sure a little more tweeking and Damon will be able to squeeze more out of it.
Its a great little drag strip with nice folks running it. After the first pass when you ran a 9.03 off the trailer the staging guys were cheering. They like to see you run too. Just looking at it the car looks like a VERY nice street machine, then you click off an 8 hehehe. The track was not prepped and you still laid the number down. Not to shabby!
Glad I was out there to see it! You were flyin!

Re: I finally got an 8 second pass! - 10/25/14 09:52 PM
Thanks everyone for the congrats. My car as some of you know is a 68 Roadrunner. It has a 604" aluminum world block with 572-13 heads, 440-3x intake and a 1250 Quick Fuel dominator. The compression is about 13.5:1. I could probably use a little more compression and cam. The combination was built to be street/strip on e85 but I went back to gas. I have a Dana 60 with 4:10 gears and a 727 trans. The race weight is approx 3025 pounds. After wrecking the car last year at Norwalk I had a strut front clip installed. The car has all orrigional glass and is all steel except hood, deck lid and bumpers.

When you wrote "Strut front clip", my heart sank, and my first thought was, "Probably ruined the stance"!
Nope...car looks phenomenal, and sounds awesome! Great pass, congrats!

Congrats Tom! Did you have anyone go into the motor since we last saw you in 2013 Norwalk? I'm sure there's even more in it too based on the 60 ft.

Tom, What are you running for a Torque converter? What's the stall? A number of years ago, I was making a number of changes to my combo. Each change involved making more Power and torque. With each change, I had the same Torque converter reconfigured. The changes always lowered my ET and picked up MPH however, my 60ft more or less stayed the same. I finally installed a playback tach and discovered that the converter was locking up early, then unloading and stalling where it was suppose to. I bit the bullet and bought a ATI fuel and blown converter. The car picked up 2 tenths and 3 MPH. The 60ft went from mid to low 1.40's to low 1.30's and high 1.20's. My car weighs about 3700lbs with me in it. My best 60ft is 1.25 with the 572. Given what my car does on the bottom, there has to be more left in yours. Just food for thought! What do you think? Jim T.

Conrats to both of you. Both of your car's are faster than mine. Comparison for what it's worth as far as converter and 60 ft. The major difference is carb/intake as mine runs the Indy cross ram with 2 750 Eddys. Car is equipped with an Ultimate 9". Flashes at 5700 on the playback. I think the carbs are bogging, slowing the 60 ft. Car doesn't spin. Lenny speced the converter very close. Ladder bar, 4.10, M/T bias 10.5x29.5, 727, 3345 lbs., 572, 14.8-1, -1 hand ported from MCH, cam 285/.799", 292/.799"@ 112 in at 108
1.29/3.73/5.80@118.2/9.127@146.68. It's been mid 147 mph in different conditions,7000-7100. The suspension adjustment was better the last time out. Looking to try some Holleys in the spring.

Mine stalls @ 5600 and goes out the back at 7200. I am running a 10.5 X 30 Hoosier radial. They measure 29.5" tall. Rear is a Dana with 4.10's. The tires may sound kind of small, but my wheel wells are stock. Since I switched to ladder bars traction issues are a thing of the past. The trap Rpm's are higher than yours. Probably because radials don't grow like bias ply's. Before my timing chain let go this summer ran a best of 148 mph. Was looking forward to a new best this fall but, the motor had to come apart to retrieve missing chain links. Been to busy with work and life to get MONTESSA back together. Well, I guess that I have all winter now!
