Re: NEW Thread for NEW BEST. - 10/10/14 07:47 PM

My Cuda had a new best last time out, not as good as I wanted though It went 9.03 and 9.04 at 147.27 MPH. I was hoping for a high 8 at or above 150 MPH I did discover that my MSD three step has issues so I'm going to try correct that and try again It had a 7200 RPM chip in the number two slot, which is for high gear, and I saw 8000 RPM during the burn out I went back to the pits and pulled that chip and saw that it was loose so I giggle it, clean the contacts and put it back in. The next run was the next morning(two day race) and it slow the car down to 9.734 at 137.71 MPH We normally get three time trails in the morning so I left it alone and dialed it slower for the race The best 60 ft. with the tree step not working properly was 1.265, after fixing it it slowed down to 1.378 It's time for me to check all the wiring, the line lock is not working the three step evidentily ) and get the correct chip in each slot so it will run out the back door without missing or limiting the car at the other end Darn these race cars with all the elctronics and boxes There is always next time Now to get the car listed for sale

Re: NEW Thread for NEW BEST. - 10/11/14 05:27 AM

Not to hijack this thread but that car is a 1970 Cuda, full tube chromoly chassis with A arm front suspension, four link in the back with steel double adjustable Koni coil overs, Dana 60 with gun drilled 40 spine axles, 40 spline steel Moser spool with dual Wilwood calipers on the back and single caliper Wilwood disc brakes in the front. The main body and slide off front end is steel, the doors, front and rear bumper, hood and deck lid are lightweight racing fibreglas, Lexan side and rear windows with a lightweight safety plate windshield. Thick main web cold weather 400 block with ductile iron main cap and ARP main studs with a 4.25 stroke Ohio Crank Company crank cut down to fit in the 400,505 C.I. Diamond pistons, Comp Cams custom ground solid roller cam, Eddy Victor M.W. heads and a Indy 400-3 inatke with a AJ Castilini built E85 carb. Mikes Monter glide and Mikes 9 inch converter, removeable trans tunnel, Biondo 400 box and Shiftnoid air shifter and air throttle on it. It weighs 2750 with me in it at racing weight, minus me it weighs in under 2500 lbs It is a very good car, goes staright and repeats times. I didn't biuld it so it has to go I have a new car(1965 Dart 270 back half car that will certify to 7.50 ET) being built and I don't have the room to store two race cars or the desire to race two cars any more

Re: NEW Thread for NEW BEST. - 10/12/14 12:44 AM

We were able to drop the 60ft times from 1.38 to 1.34 by reducing air pressure.
We run Good Years 14 X 31 and had been running them at 8.5 LBS. I called Good Year tech and they recommended 6.5 - 7 lbs. We have been reducing pressure by .5 lb.s each time out to see if the car gets hard to handle on the top end. So far, no effect on handling at all, and we are at 7.5 lb.s .
If we get back out 7 lb.s next shot.

Mark

P.S.and we may switch to a Dominator carb and intake.

Thanks Brad and yes it was the first nos pass on the car,we ran another 2 with the same 26 jets and I am very very pleased.
I pulled the cam before even putting the engine in the car and had Paul from IS give me a true nos type cam and I'm glad I did.
neXT outing is Atco and the bigger jets are in it and ready to go being the day I was their it got very damp at night and the track wouldn't let us go

not a new best et/mph since I'm using a restrictor plate, but a new 60 best @1.29, the best so far by almost .04

Getting a little braver and launching @5000
Going to work on my courage and maybe try a 6000 rpm launch

little skeered of that though

29.5 x 10.5

No prob 1.33 60' 5.63 @ 124 with not so much a click to the Santuffs or Caltracs on a 26jet.
Should go like a sob with 36 and up jets.

I run the M/T 29.5x10.5. I get them used from a local grudge racer. They put 10 passes on them and sell them pretty cheap. Anyhow, with my ladder bar Dart Sport at 3225 lbs we found that the car likes 12-12.5 lbs. And Racerx, that 1.26 is awesome! You'll get 40's out of it for sure !!

Re: NEW Thread for NEW BEST. - 10/14/14 01:45 AM

I bought a set of take off 10.5 x29.5 from the same guy as Dartin. Put them on my 64 Belvedere N/SS car, 2 box stock Eddy carbs @ 3345lbs 1.290, 5.79@118.6, 9.127@147.58. The tires lowered the mph a tad but the early end of the track continues to get better. Considering the car has 185 passes and started at 9.42@143 last spring I'm pretty happy. The converter, engine, cam timing, lash have never been messed with. All tuning done with trans component lightening, shock/ladder bar/tire psi tuning. Even won a couple. Looking forward to next year.

My new best came in the spring on the first day tuning my e85 carb, 10.54 @ 125.6mph. Since then I have tuned the carb, but the air has not been good so I haven't improved...but next spring I would think it would run a 10.4x in cool air without any trouble.

410 small block, ported Edelbrocks
small street roller (248/254),
Victor intake, 750dp carb on e85,
3200# street car, through the mufflers,
727, 8" converter, 4.10 gears, 275/60/15 radial.

Thanks, it has evolved over the last 20yrs I have owned it. Started life as a stock stroke 340 with ported cast iron heads no roll bar or cage and factory interior. It went 12.20 the first time at the track and it has been all down hill from there, lol.

My 67 Barracuda ran a new best mph(1/8th mile) Sunday afternoon...97.95 previous best 97.70.I didn't change anything and the temp was 62 degrees,Previous best mph was at 35 degrees,so it may have more in it as the temps drop later this month. The funny thing was that the ET was off a couple(6.917),compared to the best ET sunday of 6.895,when it only went 97.33 mph.

Actionange, What was your ET in the 1/8 ? My 60 is a little better and the same mph. I am just trying to figure out what my 1/4 ET may be.

6.19 in the 1/8 mile

Went to MIR Saturday and crushed my old best - went from 11.56 to 11.38 @ 116.8. 1/8 went from 7.32 to 7.20. I really don't want to put a roll bar in the car so this might be about it.

Had a small new best last weekend, track wasn't great, the car had wheelspin all but one of my runs, the one that didn't was just after they put some glue on the track which resulted in my best ever 60ft 1.36 and quite a lot of air but unfortunately i over revved the motor in 2nd gear and the car didn't like it so not quite as good as i expected but still a 10.16 at 131.68.
One of my last runs netted a best 10.140 at 132.88 mph with a poor 1.47 60 ft.
Previous best speed is 131.64, previous best 60ft is 1.39, previous best et is 10.165.
To be fair there was a tail wind.

You got me by a 10th. A 6.19 was my goal this year but I may not be able to make it back to track since I am working 6-7 days a week.

The car has started to finally come around, 9.47 & 140.43, then last sunday best 60', 1.29, @3785 #s. Think we found tires have gone away, & one front shock is giving me fits. All in all, this year was pretty interesting learning curve. New tires next year & shocks. Dave ss/ea #1355

Clicked off a 8.901 @ 149.81 at Numidia a couple of weeks ago with a tenth in the timer. I figure it would ahve been a high 8.70 pass all out.
