I've been looking a lot into the front brakes on my duster. I have determined I have 9" drums by measuring the spindle. Now I'm a bit worried that if the car starts to pull the wheels that the spindle may break since it's so small.

Wilwood does make a disc brake kit for this but the spindle still worries me.

What can I do to beef up the front spindle without spending a lot of cash on a spindle? I have been told that something like a Dodge diplomat spindle would work, but then do I need different A arms?

Or am I worrying too much about the small spindle?

The other thing is I don't want to mess with my steering too much anymore, since I have it all dialed in. If I mess with it too much and need an alignment I no longer have access to a dealership and able to mess around on their rack for hours playing with geometry.

I have the areospace ft disc kit for 9" drum spindle with a 540 mega block 67 cuda pulls the front wheels every pass no problems my engines a lot heaver

The 67-72 a body's all had small ball joint as far as I know. Just that some are disk, some drum.
I did wheel stands with my old car for years, ( raced it a lot) with no issuers ever. 70 Duster wth disk brake spindles.
I ended up using aerospace disk brakes, as I believe Willwood doesn't offer a kit for those, just the drum type like you have.
At any rate, aerospace demanded i send them my spindles( because people often don't have what they think they have,and they mount the correct caliper brackets for you)
I liked the brakes and recommend this avenue of approach.

I will definitely look into the aerospace stuff. I know it's very good quality.

Don, do they charge extra to install the brackets or is that part of the package and good customer service?

My 8 second Valiant originally came with 9" drums. I have the Strange disc brakes in front and have raced the car for 20 years without a problem with the spindels.

I honestly can't remember. It's been quite a while. Give them a holler.
You might not have a choice. They told me so many guys send stuff back because they send the kit based on customer info, they just have you send the spindles your using,they see what you have, and set them up.

I recently purchased Aerospace fronts and they have a ordering worksheet with many different Mopar spindle configurations listed. You match your spindle type with the diagram and give it back to them. Pretty easy process.

I think Demongup (Adam) has a strange front brake set up with the 9" drum spindles set up for the big ball joints for sale.

I know of one older Mopar sponsored SB 4 speed Duster that was very fast(high nines at 149 MPH ) that had nine inch spindles, he did a lot of wheeleis and never broke a spindle BTW, stay away from any auto parts named Aerospace, Aeromotive yes, Aerospace NO

Aerospace brakes are nice. Ran them for years on a 9 sec car, new owner still has them. Really nice stuff.
If Cab is talking about these brakes, and bad mouthing them.... He flat doesn't know what he is talking about. Period.

Your right, I have not used any of Aerospace products on the advice of several local shops that have use them and had problems on the all products they used, fuel sustems, brakes, vacume pumps and so on I've used Holley, MSD, BM, Turbo Action, Pro Trans, B&M Strange, Winters, Wilwood, Magnafuel, Comp Cams, Bullet Cams, Ultra Dyne, A1 trans and converters and a lot of the other parts companies out there, no complaints on any of those companys The next question is do you know the difference between good parts and excellent parts I've learned many thngs in racing the hard way, when someone I trust tells me that so and so parts are junk I'm not going to buy and test them to find out about them for myself unless a lot of other people that I know and trust tell me different

as my Dart got faster & i went past 140mph i found i needed better brakes or buy a chute. so i bought these Bendix conversion brake kit. bigger rotors 2 pot calipers & twice the size pads & now i pull up real good. was a good buy of e-bay too.

The 9" drum spindles don't break....it's the lower ball joint bolts that snap.

Your credibility just went right out the window..... Lol...
You have MSD on your list of " good guys".... just had to replace a bad 6 week old box the other day. Had a 6al go bad intermittently( took 2 months to figure out) during a points season few years ago
But those aerospace brakes never let me down one time, nor anybody else I am aware of on the board here.

i,ve been using aerospace brakes on 9" drum spindles for 5 years now, my car runs mid to low 9,s at 140+ mph.
The wheels are in the air on every pas. i have had 0 problems with the brakes or spindles(I wish i could say this about everything else on my car).

Are those from UPC/mrspares ?
