DO YOU WANT TO KEEP THE STOCK AMP METER? (all CAPS is considered one way to SHOUT on the internet ) If so there is no proper way other than reusing the stock wiring. The best solution is to remove the stock amp gauge and replace it with a Volt Meter To do that remove the stock wring from the alternator to the firewall gang plug and remove the wires from the voltage regulator and run one wire from the new alternator to the positive side of the battery To be able to read the voltmeter and not drain the battery is to run the hot wire from the ignition side (with the key on) of the stock wiring to the voltmeter and ground the other side of the voltmeter Is this a race car or street car? If a race car make sure to run the new hot wire from the alternator directly to the positive side of the battery , do not hook it up to the feed side of the battery cut off switch IHTHS

CAB is right but with the one wire alt you can actually just put it on the car and just hook the stock output wire up and it will work and charge. Is always good to update your wireing and bulkhead but it will work with just the main hot output wire hooked up as thats all it needs since it self excites itself. Just leave the field wires unhooked and tape them back in the harness as you dont need them with the one wire alt. Ron

Im running 100amps through the stock amp meter and stock wiring.
But if i know that the batt is starting to get discharged alot i use the charger in my shop.
If battery is charged theres no where near 100 amps going through the gauge.
Although might get some losses through the gauge but for me it works.
