intake gaskets. - 01/04/09 03:47 AM

Finally got the motor out and am starting the teardown.Discovered 6 of the 8 intake port gaskets sucked in or damaged in some way. Last freshened used the Hughes oring type gasket due to having no luck with the fel-pro or Mr Gasket gaskets. I,m pretty sure its the alcohol causing them to shrivel up like they do. Anything else out there that may be more durable? Heads and intake angles are okay. The gaskets are three years old, car started getting hard to start about half way thru the year, ran okay otherwise.

I have had that problem in the past, I started sealing the gaskets to the intake and lubricating the head side of the gaskets. Before I had just lubricated both sides of the gasket with no sealant at all. Anyway sticking one side of the gasket seemed to fix or at least help the issue a lot, I haven't had a gasket damaged since I started doing it this way.
