Who makes a good engine cradle? - 09/18/14 03:18 AM
Need one for a smallblock.. has to be decently built so I can move it around, maybe even move it to the garage. Leary of the ones from summit, look too cheap.

Get a shopping cart. They work perfectly with a little fab work.

Don't you have a couple in your front yard out by the bus stop?
Quote:I can picture you doing that for some reason.
I do a few laps in the shop once in awhile.

Make one youself using a furniture dolly and a few 2x4's.I have a 440 on one and a 383 on another and they work great.

I used to make them but I got tired of doing it. They take a lot of time and nobody seemed too excited about paying me what they cost to make.

Build stuff lots stouter than the summit/all star POS and people want you to match the price. No thank you.

i agree, they're a great source for an engine dolly. you don't have to steal the hole thing, just everything below the basket & it fits in the trunk easier. 2 mins with a battery powered saber saw or grinder & you've left the scene. live a little

Can someone post a picture of the furniture dolly concoction?
Quote:That thing doesnt look very rigid. Unless there is something im not seeing. Flat metal with no angle folds over pretty easy.
A furniture dolly works okay to store an old passenger car engine on. Just use some vertical 2x6 on each side of the oil pan and the engine will sit there. But most guys with $20k race engines want something a little nicer. Especially if you have an aluminum oil pan, or a custom oiling system.
The dollies that I used to build had 5 inch casters on them. The casters alone cost more than double what a furniture dolly costs.

Well if your gonna do that you might as well get one of
the gummer chair ones(electric) and cut it up.. but
it would be motorized for easy moving... LOL
