Winters Sidewinder or Turbo Action.

I have had a Winters Sidewinder for about 15 years. Nice shifter.

I use a B & M Pro Ratchet shifter in mine. Very good race shifter for a Rev Manual valve body. Can be a pain to get adjusted sometimes, but very reliable.

Just bought another quarter stick for my new car after using one forever in the old ride.
They are bulletproof,
Don't know honestly how anything could work any better, they are foolproof

If you want the BEST shifter out there then PPP is #1 by far. Walk around the pits at a national or divisional event and look and see what the SS and Comp guys are using. They aint cheap but they are the best.

Re: race shifter ? - 08/21/14 02:19 AM

I've had my turbo action shifter since the mid 80's. No complaints. Taking it out of my cuda and putting it in my 67 Belvedere(I'll have it done before the cuda) and then when I start updating the cuda I'll be getting another one.

Doesn't the Hurst 1/4 stick look alot like this B & M Pro Stick ?
I though the one my buddy had did. Myself I like this B & M Pro Stick alot. It does not cost a ton of money and its simple reliable and easy to use and works great when racing. Ron

Re: race shifter ? - 08/21/14 09:00 AM

I like the old Fairbanks, Winters, Turbo Action H.D. garbage truck industrial type floor shifters I've had three of them in three different cars so far I have worn out both a B&M and Hurst ratchet shifters in two other bracket cars in not much time, maybe four years of racing twice a month each year a long time ago I like the ease of installation and the ease of shifting the Fairbanks and Winters reverse pattern shifters, there not as near as sensitive on the cable adjustments as all the other ones I have used Buy the best once and don't look back

B&M Pro-ratchet is all I ever use in my car's.

Re: race shifter ? - 08/21/14 11:48 AM

Another vote for the Winters style shifter, solid, bombproof and will not jam ever. I've used most of the other shifters over the years and found them flimsy, easy to jam, fiddly to use and in a few cases, easy to hit the wrong gear. Been a Winters convert for years now.

I really like my PPP. Great shifter and the best part is the rear entry cables. No more worrying about routing around headers and starters.

Go to Summit and try them out. They have most all of them on display.

I think you would like a ratchet type shifter the best

With PPP you have alot of options. You don't have to take vanilla if you want chocolate. Front exit, rear exit, push / pull. Mine is a rear exit, push to up shift(on a rmvb) set up and I like their line lock button.

PPP is as good as it gets.

Of course they are in the car but I use a newer 1970 trans. I not sure if anyone makes an adapter type unit to use my stock push buttons with the newer trans as I would love to hook them back up some day. Ron

Re: race shifter ? - 08/22/14 04:48 PM

I've had this Winters shifter in my Cuda since 1982 and have no intention of ever changing it. It's simple and works well.
