Valve to piston checking question

Valve to piston checking question - 08/09/14 08:03 PM

I have a question on checking valve to piston clearance with a hyd cam. Should I use a solid lifter when checking - won't the hyd lifter give a false reading - not being pumped up?

Use a solid lifter, or put a small washer in there to make it act like one. That will only work with a weak checking spring" though.

Just use a solid lifter , that will be accurate enough

And take your reading at the valve to make sure it is
traveling the distance it should be.. if your using
adjustable rockers you can adjust the rocker to make
sure you are getting full lift... if the solid or
what ever you use is a different height you could
end up short on the lift

isnt it likely that the solid lifter will have a different pushrod cup height than the hyd lifter?
can you use a hydraulic lifter but make sure its full of oil?

if you use a very light pressure checking spring and make absolutely sure the hydraulic lifter does NOT collapse any, then yes you can Set the lash at zero and watch the lifter cup to retaining ring clearances and go from there Let us know what you find out another messy option is to prime the motor while doing the PtoV checking I've done that also
