Small Block motor porn - 08/04/14 06:37 AM

Here's a motor I just wrapped up for a buddy while I save up to rebuild mine. It's a 416 Scat rotating assymbly from Todd Marsh, CNC prepped Eldelbrock heads from Hughes Engine as well as one of their hydraulic cams.

Putting it on the dyno Thursday, hoping for 500 HP.

Mopar, P5155525, I guess they are new, I've never seen them before. Not cheap though, $300.

I will suggest that you cut the tie bars between the
header flanges to let them grow without worping the
flanges

I thought that's why the good headers have the 3/8" thick flanges now is to resist the warping. I like your idea though.

With that bar in there it tries to push both ways
as it heats up and tends to flex the flanges... yes
the 3/8 flange is better for sealing and less resistant
to worping but given enough heat and force even they
will worp... thats why you try yo help it all you can..
its easier to make a flange with the tie bars in there
and to cut them off would be added expense
EDIT
Even a saw cut width is good enough but on the headers
I build I contour the flange and get rid of all the
tie bar

Also a VERY important thing to do is drill 1 of the
holes to a larger diameter to allow the flange to slide
instead of worping(if you have 2 5/16 bolts holding
each tube or the pair of tubes drill 1 hole to 3/8")

Re: Small Block motor porn - 08/05/14 06:10 PM

I didn't do that with my other set of TTI's and I haven't had any issues but I see your point and if these weren't my buddies and polished ceramic coated I'd ask him about doing that but he is planning to take it to car shows so this wouldn't look as nice. But thanks for the suggestion!

Here is a picture on the engine cradle with wires and ready for the dyno.

Yeah most guys dont want to cut them on coated headers..
I cut them off before I take them to get coated...
if he wants to he should drill 1 hole larger per set
of tubes and that would be covered by the bolt/nut head
