Fuel cell foam?? - 12/30/08 05:06 AM

I will be running pump gas in my fuel cell,
run with or with out the foam? Does regular
gasoline deteriate the foam?

I've never had a problem with the foam in my tank
with gas, been in there 12 years now

I have a car with a fuel cell, that has been sitting dry for three or four years. I hope to have the car back on the track this summer or next. Do I need to replace the foam before I fill the fuel cell and start the car? I don't want to get the fuel system messed up.

Thanks, John

Either take it all out and rinse the tank clean
and run it with no foam for your start up or re-foam
it then start it up
EDIT
I shouldnt say to re foam it YET, put gas in it and
let it set(so the foam is covered) then after its
set for about a hour squash it with your hand and
see if it crumbles... if so replace it

I took mine out when I had brackets welded to the cell (alum). I never put it back in. Some cell configurations need the foam, others do not.

Thanks Mr P Body and Jim:

Thanks for the information. I will probably cap the fuel cell at the outlet and fill it as described. Before it is connected to anything that will get damaged.

Thanks again,

John
