New Best & Kicked Out - 05/24/14 04:56 AM

Drove the 68` to Quaker City tonight and made 2 runs with the new engine and other repairs.
Previous best was 11.99@110 at a faster track..

1st run 11.60@115mph spun thru low gear.....

2nd lowerd tires to 14lbs..............
11.490@115mph,1.63-60ft..still slipped some....
Goes thru the traps at 4,800.
No roll-bar,, don`t do that again.

68` Satellite,bench seat,column shift,stock converter and trans,3.33 Dana, AND 440 W/B&M 177
Blower.3-lbs boost LOL :goes up with more RPM....
Needs more gear/converter to get max performance at the track, starts to really come on at the 1,000ft. line.

Put tools and cooler back in trunk and drove 35miles home.
I am happy with that for what it is.........

Kicked out , Heck i ran my Duster for 2 yrs. running 10.9s @ 123+ with no roll bar , Yes "stupid" i know, but i can't believe they let me slide all that time, Of coarse they did like the car & both tracks were borderline outlaw .

Re: New Best & Kicked Out - 05/24/14 07:32 AM

Quaker has suddenly gotten "official",they gave me greif in tech for not having a guard on the blower belt. Its a simple 10-rib/serpentine belt, not a cogged 10-71 Top Alcohol FC.

I will be back and see how long it takes till they give me an aultimatum.

Car got a lot of attention, wife says the blower is really loud and people are curious as to why it sounds "funny".

Quaker City was much more tolerant that I would have been, I wouldn't have let you into the track in the first place
Congratulations. How many PSI????? How many cubes????

Nice going and congrats on the new best. I remember the first time I ran 10's that on my second pass the track tech guy came over and told me to get a fire jacket on or go home as I had forgot all about the fire jacket. Ron

Nice to see you made an early evening of it

That car is scooting right along and I bet it's a blast to drive on the street

Congrats on the ejection

Well I have the its NOT blue with New Hampshire plates rule working in my favor.

440 cu. 3-lbs boost. I`ve seen 7-lbs at 6,000rpm,but with the gear thats not practical.

One scary note: for the last month or so I`ve been "testing" on the road,4,800=115mph,
Iv`e had it to 6,000 in 3rd-----yikes!!!!!
Thank You Jimmy for watching out for my foolishness..

It really is a fun dual-purpose toy. It drives SO nice and the power is so fluid it reminds me of a hot-rod Turbo-Diesel.

With traction and more gear I beleive it could dip in th 10`s.

I have NO idea how good or bad the tune is versus "perfect".
Timing @ 30* jetting AFR 12.0 which is lean by most opinions.
It was a very pleasant suprise.....we all need those every so often to keep us hooked I guess

Cant you change your pulley ratio to get boost sooner
and more of it... whats that little blower worth for
max pressure

Ratio is 2.13 to 1.
I`ve seen 2.42 to 1.
Read some SBF/SBC stuff on YellowBullet that got 10/13lbs. out of them. But they spum the blower 16,000 rpm with Alcohol/E-85 set-ups.

I was thinking if I could get a converter made that was soft enough to minimize the drop on the shifts yet act stockish on the highway it could pickup quit a bit.
Choose the 3.33 gear for street manners,I think 3.73 would really wake her up. IF i could get traction.
Chassis is STOCK..shocks/sway-bar/battery in front/heavy everythingetc......
Really starts to pull at the 1,000 ft mark,Guessing if I could get it to use 5,200/5,500 shifts it would really fly.
Also could be its too rich/not enough timing and its that late in a pass till it gets into its sweet-spot.

Its only been 14-hours and I`m already thinking about a roll-bar and gears and converters and cams and divorce,,,cause the wife will kill me if I ruin "her" car LOL

Old habits die hard....

What RPM do u shift at? 4800?
Posted By: Dragula

Re: New Best & Kicked Out - 05/24/14 08:53 PM

That's awesome.....And glad it runs that good right from a new build. I am sure with some testing and ajustments, a roll bar will really be needed.

We were also told to leave once last year. We brought the resto mod/stock '70 Charger out for TNT and ended up going 11.13 at 122 on the last pass....Track owner was not very happy when he noticed only the stock lap belts in place.....Dang pump gas Hemi makes some power.

Yes on the 11.49 I shifted at 4,800.

I messed around with shift points last couple years ,really does`nt make amuch differance EXCEPT waiting for high RPMs. anyting over 5,500 ish really slows it down. But that was last year with what turned out to be ZERO fuel pressure!!!
Gauge read 5psi,,, bad gauge and pump actually had ZERO which lead to 5 broken cast pistons LOL

Myself,I would increase the blower speed and if you
want you can change the gear to the 3.73 but that would
be about it.. its your wifes car and I dont know if
you would want to spring for a conv.. then start tuning
to get the max out of what you have.... JMO

That's an awfully teeny tiny blower. I think you would cringe at what the discharge air temp is now never mind after you dial it up.

Good job none the less. One of my "After I win the lottery" goals is to build a "patina" rod like Dizuster and tour the country to see how many racetracks I can be invited not to return to.

At 3 psi now(max) I dont think it'll go much higher
both in psi or temps... Dizuster doesnt inner cool
either, I know.. I built the set up for him and he
didnt want the inner cooler... and he runs a lot more
psi than the OP

Yeah, drive ratio would get the boost in earlier in the RPM range its at now.

I don`t know if I could hook-up more boost down low without making the chassis more drag freindly.
have MT ET DragRadials 295/75`s on there now.

But also need to explore jetting/timing/shift points etc.... Wouldn`t be suprise to see a couple 10ths left in it.

Quaker City actually goes uphill and traction is 50/50 most days.
All else equal Norwalk or Columbus would be at least a 10th and a couple mph as is.....

Being that your all stock (shocks included) its real
hard to tune in the chassis

Yep,,,, I have found that if I put the pinion snubber on it won`t even try to hook up.

Don't worry about the divorce. You don't have much she would want anyway. Put a cage in it and go bang on it!

Seriously though, very cool. About time something worked right on that car.

HELLO ALL!!!! What doe's the manufacture recomend for "max" rpm of the blower!!!!!!! Then you can pully it from there!!! Good Luck!!

Way cool just needs some tweeking but at LEAST put a bar in it............

Re: New Best & Kicked Out - 05/27/14 08:40 PM

I had that (same) blower on my Charger back in 1990 to about 1994, it ran flawlessly, even drove it back & forth to the Mopar Nationals from Charlotte.

As I remember B&M said not to exceed about 14000 rpm blower speed and I would turn the 440 about 5300-5500, I tell you it was really fun with a 4 speed, could not get it to hook back then but it was really QUICK through the middle as yuo can imagine 600+ lb/ft to be...and it loved light misty rain days and was unbelievably responsive on the highway. It was a lot of fun and would have liked to put it on a low deck with Stage VI's.
