hemi 426 4&7/32 air cleaner to Eddy air horn? - 04/23/14 11:53 AM

Any suggestions on how to fit the small hole dual quad Hemi air filter base (4 7/32" holes) to twin Eddy carbs (5 1/8) ?

I know they make an adapter going the other way (large air cleaner to small neck carb) but I need to fit an old school hemi base to dual Eddies with a larger air horn.

Suggestions?

Which style air cleaner are you running, the round one or the oval one?

It pretty much takes a different base plate for the air cleaner.
I'm running a round "Chrome Dome" and I modified mine by welding it new air horn rings (baseplate was mildly butchered to start with).

Mancini sells the already modified with the larger air horn.

Not the best option when you have already purchased carbs but these are a very popular choice, I build/sell a lot of them.

They sell air cleaner bases on ebay for the large carbs.

no only do i have edelbrocks, but i also have the stage V manifold: larger air horns and carbs spaced farther apart, like the marine manifold.

i checked around various sources but in the end found a guy who fabbed one for me from a six pak repop base. it is stunning, a work of art, and looks like it would have if it had come from the factory.

paid a pretty penny for it though...

Its the repro oval base from Year One - already have the Eddys AND the base....so buying another base is money down the pan....

Seems like its a custom cut and shut job - there's always things to learn!

For Hemis Only makes an air cleaner baseplate with Stage V carb-to-carb spacing. It's for a Shaker setup but you could trim the lip back.

It's a bit pricey but a really nice piece. Tim did a great job on getting this needed part developed. I'm sure it's a low volume mover so I hope he breaks even by 2020

Year One takes returns, no questions asked. Maybe the shipping is a killer in your neck of the woods..

hmmm� not impressed. flat black, and you can see where the top piece was tack welded into place. and isn't the breather nipple on the wrong side?

i paid a little under a grand for mine (minus top) by the time it was all done, and it puts this one to shame.

oh, and that included a fabbed bracket so i could use a stock lid.

were they really? not that poor quality though, i would hope...

Well I bit the bullet and enlarged the holes - Now I have to get a couple of air cleaner bases - cut the bell centre out of them and insert the centres into the holes.

I'll insert them from the inside so I can take advantage of the smooth flow contour into the carb horn.

Not exactly a thing of beauty but not bad for a production part.

I'm pretty sure that the factory used the same tooling that was used to stamp the 1966-1970 round chrome dome bases and simply made a new surround which was spot welded to the revised/trimmed base plate to create the later oval bases.
