My new motor 540 B1, Indy Maxx UPDATED pics motors in - 04/01/14 02:17 AM

All this talk the last couple weeks about low deck builds. Figured I was far enough along with my build to show some pics...

So its a low deck Indy Maxx block 4.5" bore and a Callies 4.25" stroke crank. Callies Ultra h-beams, Diamond custom 14 to 1 pistons. Custom Push rod oil conversion and a 54mm cam core.

IMM built the the short with the oil mods, and set up the Koffels ported B1 Originals.

Should crack 900 HP and move my 2,500 lbs stratus along nicely compared to the small block.

I also converted the car to a glide and took some rear gear out of it. Motor should be in the car this week. I have headers yet to build, so hopefully that goes smooth and I can get to testing!

Wow, look at that custom lifter and cam lobe oiling system. Seems like a simple idea, but lots of little tubes and fittings.

With the B1 heads, that should make some power!

Looks like all new parts, even on the outside.
Is that the new, black hard anodized Milodon oil pump cover? (for external oil pickup lines and remote filter).

Like the valley plate. Where can I get me one of those? Look forward to hearing the results.

Pasco Machine, has been kind of a local sponsor for me on stuff like that. The built my Racepak mount, and do little things like that on the lathe or mill I need for the race car...

I am way excited to have some results too! Its been a long winter making all this come together!

Yes its all new, and yes that is the Milodon cover. I wanted to run the filter the conventional way but it just barely contacted my rack. I didn't want to run a smaller filter...

Forest,
I'll be looking for you at Woodburn this year. That should get you in the mid to high 8's. I forget how much your car weighs? Hopefully I'll have the new Predator in the car, and running well.

Look GREAT. Should be a VERY nice combo.

Wallace Racing - ET/MPH/HP Calculator Weight is as the car sits on the line: driver and gas in it.
Calculate ET and MPH from HP and Weight
Weight HP

Your ET / MPH computed from your vehicle weight of 2500 pounds and HP of 900 is 8.19 seconds and MPH of 165.05 MPH.

Re: My new motor 540 B1, Indy Maxx - 04/01/14 05:16 AM

i see your valley plate is removable with the heads still in place, what are you proposing to use to seal along the flange face? on my Maxx block the valley plate is sandwiched under the heads so i had to use one of Andys removable inner plates to access the valley which works fine. On my Stage 6 head engine i had to bolt the valley plate to the flange face to stop it wanting to leak since it wasn't held like the Indy headed version even with a quality 3 Bond sealer.

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments! I will be happy with mid 8's, but wouldn't mid a lower eight.

Yes I plan to be at Woodburn for the Mopar Nats and hopefully again for the ET finals.

I used silicon on the beveled 1/4" plate, and am hoping that it is ridged enough to stay sealed...

Once you get the chassis sorted out mid 8 wont be
a problem... I would expect low 8s easy

Looks awesome!

Question, so the copper lining up top are just to individually oil the lifters? If so that is really a trick set up!

Yes, and can be tailored for more or less oil to the top.

That's a great engine for your car. Like your colour coordination and detailing.
That' engines certainly going to make things entertaining

I followed the entire build, very high quality. And now it gets a real bullet. I'd love to have it in my garage.

Mine works there, but I have a special baffle built into the top of the valve cover to help separate oil out. As I recall, it turned out to be the best spot for my motor.

Re: My new motor 540 B1, Indy Maxx UPDATED pics motors in - 04/07/14 02:21 PM

Beautiful car! If the motor makes 980 hp, and the race weight is 2500 even, the calculator says 8.00. Based on some other builds similar, it ought to go 8.25 or better!

I hope it works here too, yes there is a baffle under the cover.

I am anxious to see how well it runs too!

I hope it does work for you Forest. I only ask because there is a LOT of oil that gets caught up top in a B1 deal, not like with an Indy or stock type head. We had mine there once as well and it would suck a fair amount of oil. We assume it was under decal at the top end. But the baffling and fitting inside the cover will play a roll as well. The best thing we did was got to a Star vacuum fitting in the cover.

Al,and I thought it was just the Indy heads that done it. The 440-1 heads will do it but not near as bad as the 572&600-13 they are worse because of the spray bar oiling. But I do not think it pulls out enough extra oil to hurt anything other than the mess it makes misting your engine with oil out of the filter on top of the recovery tank. Now I do not know about the rest of you but I do not like tying a shop rag or putting a wrist band over the vent filter. Now on all of my engines I use the Moroso vacuum canister for both the vacuum pump & dry sump and block the top hole and plum into the bottom and no longer have a problem.

Re: My new motor 540 B1, Indy Maxx UPDATED pics motors in - 07/23/14 06:45 PM

Anybody have pics of how to baffle the VCs when pulling the vac from there? I decided to use a vac sys on my new 540 instead of just 2 breathers on the Vcs and have a AN-12 fitting on the top of the nearest VC which already had the 1.22" breather holes machined in. The line loops up about 5" which I thought may help keep oil from blowing into the vent can. Was thinking of putting a Aerospace vac relief in the other VC hole.

I can't see the pics listed on the work 'puter cause they don't like that host site.
