Using 1/2" head studs , anyone know the torque specs with 30 wt oil? (not arp studs)

These roller lifters have an oil way into the pushrod cup , but the pushrods have no provision for oiling the adjusters , were these roller lifters meant for pushrod oiling? , the lifter gallery has'nt been sleeved or restricted. (mega block)

What's the lash setting cold , the cam card calls for .020 intake/.022 ex (hot)

TIA.

I would add .005 to lash, warm it up to 180...
Re-torque and re-lash...

Thanks , 130lb seems a lot for those alu heads , my old eddys were 75ft/lbs.

Here is a listing for grade 2 to 8 as many bolts are not grade 8 or better. John grade 2 -8 torque specs

On our old Iron Megablock we used 70 ft/lb with 572-13 heads and 1/2 inch/20 studs. We've used the same heads, hardware and torque setting on our KB block but we keep going thru head gaskets, always in the same place.
Maybe we need to increase the torque setting?
Sorry to hijack the thread.

That same 1/2" stud is only 90# with ARP paste, so that shows you how much more friction the oil creates. Remember, torque values are measuring a pre-determined friction, so the more friction, the higher torque value is needed to accomplish the same result. Usually on an aluminum head you reduce the torque value by approximately 5%, or in this case, 5# to make up for the expansion of the cylinder head under load, heat.

TIG, that is not enough torque.

1/2"heads studs with 30# oil on aluminum heads should not exceed 85 lbs,ft.The normal torque for 1/2 studs and 30# oil is 100 lbs ft.Check with your head MFG.These #s are for grade 8 studs. The lifters can be used with or without pushrod oiling.Cold setting(assuming alum. heads)is -.005 of the recommended setting.Always reset to recommended specs. after warmup.

my alum. block and 440-1, set -.008 and recheck when hot, on super cold days lash would go to almost nothing.

Most aluminum head manufactures recommend 70 lbs ft with moly lube.An all aluminum engine will expand .015 to .018 so we usually set cold setting at 010 less on the intakes and .012 less on the exhaust. We never set them any tighter than .005.cold.Cold setting should only be used for initial start up then the valves should be set at hot run temperture.Always make sure you have plenty of piston to valve clearence.

Thanks all ,

Cam card calls for .020 intake/.022 ex hot , so i set lash @ .025 intake/.027 ex cold?

Will torque head studs to 90lb/ft with 30wt oil?

Thanks again.

EDIT Oops , should of read .015 intake/.017 ex setting cold.
