Which G3 head?

Which G3 head? - 02/24/14 06:46 PM

Putting together a 5.7 block with a 6.4 crank. 9.5 compression 6.1 cam.
This is for a daily driver.
Should I use my new 5.7 eagle heads or clean up the 06 hemi heads?

Is this a truck? If so, running the eagles may be a problem because I don't think anyone makes a truck 6.1 header. Which you'll need for the eagles.

If this is a blank slate and you've got headers for a 6.1, use eagles. They will be 30+ cfm over a set of first gen 5.7 heads. You'll be fine with the stock springs, but you'll need eagle valve covers.

If you run the first gen heads, at least put 6.1 Exhaust springs on both Intake and Exhaust. There is nothing wrong with either, but eagles are better OOTB.

What are you going to use for pistons and rods?

Since you're going to the extreme of using the 6.4 crank, I'd go with the eagle heads. I dont know about what thickness of head gasket youd have to use though. You can use 6.1 intake springs with shims on the eagle heads per Stu at Intertia Motorsports.

What intake and engine management system are you gonna run?

Sounds like a cool build.

Yes in an 03 Dakota. There may not be enough room for the 6.1 factory headers. So stock 5.7 manifold it may be.
As for the heads ,I know the newer heads are better but do I need them.
With the cam I figure the combo will be done at 5500. I was thinking the smaller heads cleaned up on the exhaust side would make more usable power.
Port velocity and swirl would help mpg?
Very interested in your roadrunner project. Matt

Aftermarket. Probably a custom piston because of the stroke.
Trying to figure out a rod, piston combo so I don't have to go custom. Matt
