All narrowed up!! pix included - 02/16/14 03:07 AM

Was a success!! Got it all cut down, tacked up, mocked in the car, checked tire clearance, that was a go, so I welded it up full. I welded it in quadrants. I checked to make sure the shaft spun after every weld. Spun fine, Had a little resistance, but it stayed even and OI let it col completely and its cooling in my shop on the jig.

im planing on stock ride height and planning on buying a better shock than the ranchos. does anyone here know the shock part number for a QA1 adjustable shock with stock rde height?

Thanks

all blasted up, just have to tap a hole for a drain and its done, except for the obvious welding and wrapping the perches.

Looks good, I just did my housing made the pucks at work and got the bar. Its amazing how easy it was, all ways seemed like a black science to me should have done them long ago myself live and learn.

Looks like the housing was bent fairly bad. Anymore you would have had to straighten so you would have something to weld to. Get one out of a truck and you will have to straighten it first.

Also you should recheck for straightness after you weld on the perches. I usually weld the perches on before the new ends are finish welded. Rearend and jig looks good. Nice work

Settings & welds look pretty good. No fear in them breaking off.
(FYI small amount of undercut on the ends but nothing to worry about)
Welds look better then some of the guys on the floor here at work that put food on the table welding!

Re: All narrowed up!! - 02/18/14 07:37 PM

Ive been welding since I was 9, Dad tought me everything I know, then went to college for the paperwork.

Yeah, a lil cut, but thats nothing too worry about. I built John Deere tool bars, and planter parts for a few years.

Got hurt at a steel mill and went to mechanics which Ive also been doing since I could cry, Dad also to blame for that LOL!!

Miss him every day

Where did you come up with the axle tube flanges? Brand? Cost? On a Dana they would not slip over but be a butt weld instead is that correct? I thought the Dana's or a least some had a larger tube diameter.

Very nice work by the way. You should post up a complete picture of your car sometime, can't recall ever seeing one.

Re: All narrowed up!! - 02/18/14 08:57 PM

No housing end is a slip over, I thought that to, but if ya think about it if theres any differance in the true center of the diffy compared to the housing there wold be no adjustment. The butt fit is adjustable which is why you see an offset compared to the flange to housing.

Re: All narrowed up!! - 02/18/14 09:41 PM

I see it now, on my phone it looked like a slip fit. That would answer 75% of my original question. I thought you stumbled onto some fancy housing end I had never come across. Stupid SmartPhone...
