AN fittings..what brand do you use

AN fittings..what brand do you use - 02/08/14 04:48 PM

I have always used Earl's or Russell fittings but they are so damn expensive. I am designing and pricing plumbing for my remote mount pump/reverse cooling setup and it is looking like over $700 just for hose/fittings. I was wondering about Fragola or even some of the other brands that I see listed on Ebay. There are even a few Chinese manufacturers selling fittings at fractions of the price of the big name brands but I was concerned about the quality. If I buy the cheapos and have to replace with the better ones anyway it ends up costing money.

I've used the Summit brand.

Let's face it, in most cases these fittings are complete overkill - being used where a rubber hose and a ten cent hose clamp would last a lifetime!

In high pressure brake systems or a fuel system I wouldn't skimp on quality but a cooling system only see's about 15 pounds of pressure. I wouldn't hesitate to use a less expensive brand there.

I've used all of them ! I know when I was in tech at summit our brand was made by aero ? Don't know if that's still the case or not but I haven't had any issues and they have been on there for some time now. !

I use the Summit brand... any of them cost... these
Summit ones are just a little less pricey... try plumbing
a dry sump.. that will get real pricey even with the
less pricey ones

Over on the EBAG, there is a company called Professional Products that sells a 5 pack of fittings, in all sizes and shapes for a really killer price..

So me, being Mr Tightbehind, bought everything I needed for my last motor build and saved a ton of money.. But today, I am slowly replacing the fittings because after a short period of time, the swivel part of the fitting stopped swivelling.. and we all know what a pain it is to remove a fitting only to have the entire hose spins too..

So I saved a dollar to waste a dollar..

If you mix brands of hose and fittings sometimes they dont play well together. My entire fuel system is Earls Pro Lite 350 hose and Earls fittings. The tranny cooler lines are stainless braid from summit with their fittings.

If you dont mind having a summit or jegs logo on them, i've had no issues with their house brands.

I've had good luck with the summit brand. Every now and then you get a stubborn swivel, but I've had that with a couple different brands.

I've used aeroquip, earls, redhorse, summit, Russel....the only ones I didn't like were the red horse one. Hard to put them together correctly. I just buy summit mostly because the are so much cheaper. My brothers shop mostly just uses Summit to because they are good for the price.

I used jegs fittings for most of the car and never had a problem. I did my vaccum pump system with the ebay fittings from proffesional products and the worked great. They sell them in bulk and they end up costing about half of what the jegs fittings cost.

probably made in the same factory , anyhow they worked great on my transmission cooler

If it's not show quality you are after and just fluid conveyence...then try the industrial hyd hose/fitting route. The money charged for AL fittigns is crazy and waaaaay over priced.

That's true...the steel fittings are much cheaper and reusable too.

You can use regular water hose and save a lot of money. If the pump has AN threads on it just use adapters. I use regular rubber water lines on the dyno and they work fine. They save a ton of money over the AN hoses and you can quickly cut the rubber lines to length.

The water manifold blocks that I sell can be fitted with hose fittings rather than AN fittings. Then you just cut the rubber lines to size and use a hose clamp. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks to do all the plumbing this way.

I'd like to see more of your set up with these. Looks cool! I'd like to redo my turbo set up and move it front and center. If that big ol pump was gone it would make life way easier..

So true. One of my sons is a heavy equipment mechanic, and we go to his employer and get those all the time. Most all heavy equipment uses hoses with those ends. Heck, they can probably make you the whole hose for the price of a couple of Earl's fittings.

The funny thing is Summit brand is made by redhorse now. I have used them plenty in the past (redhorse) and yes they just like any are a pain to get together sometimes. I use the Redhorse mainly because of the finish on them. Haven't had any problem with any unless it was operator error.

Earls ano-tuff fittings for me I have had them on and off numerous times swivels always work - never a problem . Do it one time and have never replaced any of them on any of the cars

Must have changed since I last bought some...I do like the eedhorse finish too. I don't remember which red horse fittings I had an issue with....I mostly use Teflon hose and fittings...maybe that was a factor too. I just remember the hose end fitting had a super long threaded portion...different than most fittings I've used. Maybe I did it wrong....

Another vote for Phenix Industries.

Phenix Industries

The person in charge of wholesale distribution is local to me. I've had the opportunity to more or less see everything they offer and have come away impressed.

On my wife's Barracuda, I have been replacing the generic black AN fittings from Summit with the black Phenix fittings...mostly because the generic stuff was fading terribly, but I have also noticed the Phenix fittings simply appear to be a nicer product.

Phenix AN hoses are nice as well...I have used their traditional stainless, teflon lined stainless, and their black nylon covered hose with great success on 4 or 5 cars so far.
